From cost reduction and efficiency improvement to co-creation with young people, how does "AI + Coffee" rewrite new consumption scenarios?

As the pace of urban life accelerates, coffee has increasingly become a daily necessity for young people. Beyond basic daily needs, young people's expectations for coffee have become more diverse, and they are willing to pay for spatial atmosphere, flavor exploration and social expression. The focus of competition in the offline coffee industry has also shifted from convenience to experience. From affordable high-frequency consumption to experience innovation, offline coffee scenarios are undergoing profound restructuring. At the same time, AI technology is accelerating its integration into the coffee industry chain, which has not only improved production efficiency, but also triggered a chain reaction in post competence, training systems and youth employment directions.

On the afternoon of October 31, the "AiPartner Brings AI to the Frontline — Ningbo Coffee Life Week Scenario Innovation Exchange Meeting", hosted by the Yinzhou District Development and Reform Bureau and 36Kr, was successfully held at Yunchuang Zheli Youth Hub. The event adopted a "double roundtable" format for in-depth discussions. The first roundtable focused on industry chain changes and youth opportunities under the new consumption scenario. Guests from Yunchuang NIO Group, Meke AI, Ningbo Yongcheng Asset Management Co., Ltd. and Luhui Group jointly discussed how the integration of "AI + Coffee" into the industry chain drives cost reduction and efficiency improvement, realizes scenario implementation, and taps new opportunities for youth entrepreneurship and employment under the new consumption context.

1. Cost Reduction and Efficiency Improvement: The Underlying Logic of AI Empowering Offline Businesses

Against the background that the whole industry is embracing AI technology, how to prevent new technologies from becoming mere marketing gimmicks has become a key concern of the industry. Throughout the roundtable discussion, all parties in the industry chain reached a clear consensus: the implementation of AI technology cannot be separated from real business demands, and its core value must return to breaking and reshaping the traditional cost structure.

At present, offline physical coffee shops are generally facing multiple pressures such as high rent, rising labor costs for enterprises, and heavy platform commission deductions. Therefore, all parties are committed to using AI as a vertical tool to significantly reduce trial-and-error and operational costs, so that the business model has strong replicability and self-sustaining profitability. Liang Xiangbing, Investment Director of Ningbo Yongcheng Asset Management Co., Ltd., pointed out that "there are many projects in the current market that pursue AI for the sake of AI, and robots for the sake of robots." They often forcibly package traditional consumer brands or business models into new concepts, and such projects without substantive value will be directly excluded by investment institutions at the initial business plan review stage. The real investment value lies in whether enterprises can achieve cost reduction and efficiency improvement through technology, and whether they can truly save costs and create profits. Only by crossing the threshold of cost reduction and efficiency improvement can AI effectively transform from an empty technical narrative into a cornerstone that supports young people's asset-light entrepreneurship and activates the commercial vitality of blocks.

2. Implementation Practice from the Perspective of Diversified Business Forms

1) Meke AI: Compress Traditional Costs with Embodied Intelligence to Run the OPC Model

In response to the current pain points of the traditional coffee industry, Meke AI's solution is extreme cost reduction and technology base empowerment. Yao Jincheng, initiator of the project, pointed out that the most profitable implementation of embodied intelligence in commercial scenarios is beverage robots. With equipment that covers only 1.4 square meters, Meke AI not only ensures the standardization of cup output, but also is expected to reduce all store opening costs to less than one third of the traditional model.

Yao Jincheng further elaborated on the business logic of this model. Traditional coffee shops not only need to bear decoration and rent costs, but also face the risks of staff training and employee turnover. In contrast, embodied intelligent equipment can operate 24 hours a day as long as it is powered on, ensuring that 1000 cups of coffee are produced with the same quality and speed in a standardized manner. To further reduce costs, Meke AI has also made deep efforts in the supply chain. It imports green coffee beans from Brazil and builds a roasting factory in Hengqin, Zhuhai. The policies of exemption from import tariff on green coffee bean processing and production and preferential corporate income tax rates in Hainan and Hengqin reduce the cost per kilogram of coffee beans by nearly 30% compared with other suppliers in the market.

Based on the strong technology base and low-cost supply chain, Meke AI hopes to empower the OPC (One-Person Company) model. By providing standardized equipment and site support, it allows young entrepreneurs to avoid heavy asset investment and focus their energy on front-end brand IP building and customer acquisition marketing. At present, this model is planned to launch its first demonstration store in Yinzhou District.

2) Yunchuang NIO: Shift from "Property Leasing" to "Planning-driven" to Build Youth Co-creation Scenarios

As the operator of commercial blocks and venues, Yunchuang NIO has completely transformed the traditional property operation mindset. Zhang Hua, the person in charge of the group's project, admitted that in the past, commercial blocks focused more on the daily operation of property assets, while current consumer demands put forward extremely high requirements for content and products. Yunchuang NIO's current traffic entry is no longer just rent collection, but driving foot traffic through event planning. With nearly 300 to 400 event plans throughout the year, the park actively connects with university clubs, provides venues and props, and allows creative consumers and student groups to participate in co-creation.

In terms of specific business, Yunchuang NIO has built multiple business segments. Relying on the night market, the park has set up more than 100 work-study positions, and opened a cultural and creative block to provide 4-square-meter rent-free stalls for students to test their entrepreneurship. At the same time, the park has specially set aside OPC venues, and has incubated two entrepreneurial teams engaged in AI short video business with more than 200,000 followers. In addition, by introducing experiences such as Guizhou characteristic drinks in activities like the Coffee Week, Yunchuang NIO gives college students a reason to go downstairs from their dormitories, and turns the block into a vibrant youth consumption ecosystem.

3) Luhui Group: Open up the Industry-University-Research Closed Loop to Output "AI + Consumption" Compound Talents

New business forms continue to create new positions, and the mismatch between industrial talent supply and the actual needs of enterprises has become increasingly prominent. Chang Lu, CIO of Luhui Group, said that traditional blue-collar skill training mostly focuses on heavy industrial equipment, while the current market urgently needs new type of skilled talents who can independently operate and maintain AI coffee machine robots. To this end, Luhui Group has extended its training system to consumption scenarios, and targeted training compound talents with capabilities in equipment maintenance, store operation and digital platform operation.

In response to the common pain points of difficult employment for college graduates and difficult talent retention for enterprises, Luhui Group, with its rich customer reserves, takes the talent demand of the industrial end as the core, creates order-based customized practical training courses, and implements the industry-university-research integration and targeted talent training system in more than 200 universities across the country. The group builds a bridge between campuses and enterprises, so that students can obtain real business opportunities and income returns during the practical training stage, forming positive incentives and effectively reducing the trial-and-error cost of youth employment and entrepreneurship.

4) Yongcheng Assets: Return to the Essence of Finance, Use "Cost Efficiency" to Break the Technical Illusion

As an investor representing the state-owned capital perspective, Liang Xiangbing, Investment Director of Ningbo Yongcheng Asset Management Co., Ltd., expounded his views on the current AI entrepreneurship boom. He pointed out that investment institutions will not pay for deliberately packaged pseudo-concepts, and it is meaningless to take AI itself as a business model to challenge large technology enterprises.

In Liang Xiangbing's view, AI plus coffee is essentially just an application tool in the vertical field, and the core of investment is still making profits and achieving cost reduction and efficiency improvement. During the due diligence process, Liang Xiangbing not only values the scalability, replicability and profit sustainability brought by the equipment, but also values the industrial genes of the entrepreneurial team. He believes that only people who come out of industries such as coffee and understand the internal rules and routines of the industry can make good use of the technology. Under the same scale, traditional brands such as Luckin Coffee have brand effect and scale advantages, but emerging brands with AI technology genes, as new species, may have greater imagination and premium space. Therefore, investors are more willing to bet on projects with greater imagination in the future. As a state-owned investment institution, Yongcheng Assets has rich resources of implementation scenarios, and will focus on investment and business promotion in the service industry in the future.
