Led by two academicians, Shuyang Technology uses BCI to quantify emotional states.
While most BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) projects focus on "mind control" — training people to operate rehabilitation equipment or peripheral devices — Counting Sheep Tech has taken a different path: using passive, non-invasive BCI to read signals such as electroencephalogram (EEG) in people's natural state without any voluntary movements, and converting cognitive and emotional states into quantifiable indicators.
This path is backed by nearly two decades of accumulated EEG research. On October 13, 2026, the company signed in-depth technical cooperation agreements respectively with the team led by Fabio Babiloni, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Professor of Sapienza University of Rome, and the team led by Dai Guojun, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Professor of Hangzhou Dianzi University. The two academicians have been appointed as the international chief scientist and domestic chief scientist respectively, and as one of the initiators of Counting Sheep Tech, they are deeply involved in the formulation of the company's technical strategy and R&D planning. At present, its research results are first implemented through two product lines: psychological screening for institutions, and sleep intervention for individuals.
SADOS Enters Institutional Screening Scenarios, ASIS Extends to Sleep Intervention
For the B2B market, the SADOS psychological screening system is the core product that Counting Sheep Tech is focusing on promoting and implementing at this stage. It is mainly targeted at campuses, psychology departments of Class A tertiary hospitals, judicial institutions and physical examination institutions, to meet the needs of regular psychological screening and dynamic tracking. The complete system consists of a physical detection cabin, multi-modal acquisition hardware for EEG/electrocardiogram (ECG)/electromyogram (EMG), and a cloud-edge-end SaaS platform. Subjects complete the data collection in the detection cabin, with a single detection duration of 5 to 15 minutes. The system outputs quantifiable indicators in three dimensions: anxiety cognitive function index, depressive cognitive state index, and emotional behavior risk index, providing auxiliary screening and dynamic tracking references for institutions.
For the C-end market, the ASIS active sleep induction system is designed for people with sleep troubles. It consists of a Lite headband, a Wrist band and an App. Its design forms a closed loop of "perception-regulation-feedback" through pre-sleep EEG reading, in-sleep vibration intervention and bone conduction guidance.
The medium and long-term plans also include the NeuroGuard industrial neural safety system and the CogTrain cognitive training product. The two products plan to reuse the neural state decoding capability of NeuroX, targeting the scenarios of fatigue warning for high-risk operations and children's attention training respectively.
Nearly 20 Years of Scientific Research Accumulation, Dual Academician Teams Support Technology Transformation
Counting Sheep Tech was established in July 2026, but it did not start from scratch. Its technical origin can be traced back to the nearly two decades of previous EEG research accumulation of its cooperative teams.
Academician Fabio Babiloni is the founder of the field of EEG hyperscanning, and his passive BCI method has been verified in research scenarios such as pilots, suborbital flights, in-vehicle environments and operating rooms. Academician Dai Guojun has long been engaged in research on EEG parsing algorithms and cognitive psychology experimental methods, and serves as the director of the National International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Brain-Computer Collaborative Intelligent Technology. His team has accumulated patents and research achievements in directions such as EEG noise reduction and emotion recognition.
With the participation of the two academician teams, Counting Sheep Tech has built a China-EU joint R&D system: the Industrial Neuroscience Laboratory of Sapienza University of Rome outputs cutting-edge international paradigms; the "Joint Laboratory of Brain-Computer Interface Technology", co-built by the International Joint Research Center for Brain-Computer Collaborative Intelligent Technology of Hangzhou Dianzi University and Counting Sheep Tech, undertakes the connection between engineering and industrialization.
From Laboratory Paradigms to Real Scenario Verification
The brain-computer interface industry is currently ushering in a policy window. BCI has been written into the government work report and included in the "15th Five-Year Plan" future industries. The domestic market size is expected to reach 4.6 billion yuan in 2026 and exceed 10 billion yuan by 2030. However, the industry still generally has a tendency to prioritize "mind control" while neglecting "state perception", and the commercial supply of passive BCI for mental health, sleep and industrial safety remains scarce.
Counting Sheep Tech does not position BCI as a tool for controlling the brain, but as a perception tool for neural states: it is not about control, but perception; not about replacement, but collaboration. The company hopes to gradually bring the cognitive state measurement methods that used to be mainly limited to laboratories into scenarios such as hospitals, campuses, factories and families, and finally realize the vision of "making everyone's neural state perceivable, understandable and optimizable".
