A major reshuffle of new cars in the second half of the year: Xiaomi SU7 Max comes with a "second floor" by default, BYD pickup truck makes its debut, each model is more powerful than the last...
The second half of the auto market hasn't officially kicked off, yet the competitive tension is already thick enough to choke you.
Especially the latest batch of new car filings released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the highlights are absolutely overflowing.
Xiaomi is making its first foray into the large-space SUV market. The Pengcheng N70/N90 isn't just positioned as a family SUV—it even offers a "camping edition" equipped with a power lift roof, rooftop bed, and built-in projection system...
BYD is completely overhauling its product lineup, with comprehensive upgrades for the all-new Tang, Qin Plus, and Seagull—all of which are core high-volume sellers.
The Huawei ecosystem continues to expand, with the Xiangjie V8, facelifted AITO M8, and Zhijie R7 making simultaneous appearances, further filling out its MPV and SUV product lines;
Li Auto's i9 has finally arrived, while the Voyah Dreamer 9 is targeting the even more premium MPV segment.
There are even new entrants like BYD's Fangchengbao Shark joining the fray.
So among this batch of new vehicles, which one is the most anticipated? And which one has the potential to become the next breakout hit?
Xiaomi Pengcheng: The SUV with a built-in "second floor"
Let's start with the most talked-about brand, Xiaomi.
Xiaomi Auto has filed for four models in the Pengcheng series all at once: the N90 Max Camping Edition, N90 Max, N70 Max, and N70.
The Xiaomi Pengcheng N70 is a mid-to-large 5-seater extended-range SUV, measuring 4960/1998/1785mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2950mm.
It features semi-hidden door handles, and the rear end adopts a full-width ring-shaped taillight design.
The larger N90 stretches to a total length of 5285mm with a 3080mm wheelbase, and offers both 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. The two models share largely identical exterior design cues.
The rear end still retains the signature full-width ring taillight styling.
But the real showstopper is the N90 Max Camping Edition.
It comes factory-equipped with a power-operated lifting roof. When parked, the roof rises with one touch, instantly transforming into a full "loft space".
It also includes a rooftop bed platform, side storage cabinets, and awning mounting points, with optional interior projection kits and detachable table tops. The roof stays closed while driving, and lifts up for rest when parked—no tent setup or ladder climbing required.
The front seats can swivel around, and the center armrest slides backward to form a mobile bar. Even with all three rows in use, there's still space for at least 7 large suitcases.
For powertrain, the entire lineup is fitted with a 1.5T range extender, with the engine supplied by Harbin Dongan Power.
The N70 carries a 53kWh battery, while the other three models use a 76kWh battery pack, delivering a maximum WLTC pure electric range of 380 kilometers.
For Xiaomi, whether the Pengcheng series can replicate the breakout success of the SU7 is an extremely anticipated suspense.
BYD Fleet: Flagship high-volume models get full updates
If Xiaomi is breaking into a brand new track, then BYD has completely reorganized its entire entry-level product line this time around.
The all-new generation BYD Tang has first filed its pure electric variant, with the new model stretching to 5045mm in length and a 2950mm wheelbase.
The currently filed model is the pure electric version, equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery and BYD's fast charging technology, paired with a 300kW single motor.
The Qin series has always been BYD's core sales driver, and this time the Qin Plus is also getting a major refresh.
The new model reaches 4840mm in length with a 2800mm wheelbase, already hitting the dimensions of a midsize sedan.
The front grille gets a full blackout treatment, a new LiDAR unit is added to the front fascia, and an extra camera is mounted on the top of the rear end—there are no major changes to the powertrain.
Under the hood, it retains the 1.5L plug-in hybrid system, offered with two battery options: 16.2kWh and 24.3kWh, corresponding to 107km and 160km of pure electric range respectively.
The Seagull is also getting significant upgrades: its overall dimensions are fully enlarged, reaching 4205mm in length with a 2650mm wheelbase, nearly matching the size of the higher-class BYD Dolphin.
It features sharper, larger headlamps, and the lower air intake has been completely redesigned.
The charging port appears to have been moved to the left rear fender, and it is powered by a 95kW electric motor.
While the main brand's high-volume models are getting full iterations, BYD's premium product line hasn't been idle either—the Denza N8 is also getting major updates.
The all-new Denza N8 measures 5150mm*1999mm*1820mm, with a wheelbase of 3075mm.
Compared to the previous version, this new model puts greater emphasis on spacious interior experience, positioned as a large 5-seater SUV.
