Swiss security technology company Anapaya Systems (hereinafter referred to as Anapaya) was founded in 2017. The company is committed to researching and developing the next-generation SCOIN Internet architecture. This architecture is based on isolation domains to create a secure communication space, which can ensure that users control the data transmission path and method, support multi-path transmission, and ensure the security of data transmission.
Anapaya is a spin-off company of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, founded by Adrian Perrig, David Basin, Peter Muller, and Samuel Hitz. Adrian Perrig is a member of the company's board of directors and has been a professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich since 2013. David Basin is a member of the company's board of directors and has been a professor of information at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich since 2003. Peter Muller is a member of the company's board of directors and has been a professor of information at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich since 2003. Samuel Hitz is the company's chief technology officer and holds a doctorate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.

The public Internet provides universal access services to the world, but it has deficiencies in terms of security, reliability, and controllability, which pose risks to enterprise operations. The basic architecture of Internet communication was established in the 1980s, and the protocol used for data transmission has been the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), which was born more than 30 years ago. The outdated protocols and infrastructure of the Internet are difficult to cope with the ever-evolving network threat situation, which may lead to potential network outages and security vulnerabilities. For example, data packets may be maliciously redirected, security certificates may be forged, and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks may disrupt Internet services by sending countless unnecessary requests. This makes it difficult for multinational companies that need to exchange terabytes of data globally and industries such as the banking sector that handle confidential and highly sensitive information to cope with the changing network threats and also fails to meet the growing demand for stable and fast data connections. Current solutions such as MPLS and SD-WAN can solve some problems, but they are often costly, lack control, and have deficiencies in flexibility and scalability.

Anapaya has developed the SCOIN Internet architecture, which can provide secure inter-domain routing, QoS, DDoS defense mechanisms, elastic public key infrastructure, and high availability. It combines the openness and flexibility of the Internet with the security and resilience of private networks, effectively changing the way modern businesses access the Internet.
The meaning of SCION is scalability, control, and isolation on the next-generation network. Its core lies in redefining the way data is transmitted on the Internet. Different from the traditional Internet protocol that routes data along any path, the SCOIN Internet architecture can precisely control the data flow and ensure that data packets are transmitted through pre-defined secure paths and methods. Its multi-path routing capability can ensure that even if one path fails, the data can be immediately switched to other routes, thus maintaining uninterrupted service and providing organizations with a more reliable, secure, and compliant data transmission method.
The SCION architecture is built around isolation domains (ISDs). Isolation domains can be divided by geographical scope or other criteria. Each isolation domain contains various autonomous systems (ASs), and each autonomous system needs a specific certificate to join the isolation domain. Communication between two networks within the same isolation domain will not leave this isolation domain. Therefore, the internal data traffic of a single isolation domain will be subject to a unified legal framework, and sensitive data cannot be transferred through other countries. Multiple isolation domains can be connected together to form a large network. Based on isolation domains, SCION creates a secure unit that can connect service providers and users in a trusted environment, enhancing security while simplifying network management.
At the same time, SCION allows data senders to control routing, precisely select the transmission method and destination of data packets, set multiple end-to-end data transmission paths, and support users to visualize and verify data paths using encryption methods, ensuring that data only passes between enterprise sites, trusted partners, and cloud providers, further guaranteeing the security and transparency of data transmission.
Based on this, SCION can effectively prevent DDoS attacks and unauthorized rerouting, provide strong authentication for all network traffic, and break through the long-standing limitations of traditional IP routing. By creating a B2B Internet independent of the traditional Internet, it supports global Internet service providers and enterprises to transmit critical business data securely and transparently.
Anapaya's SCOIN Internet architecture can be used in multiple fields such as finance, payment, public utilities, and healthcare. Currently, it supports the Secure Swiss Financial Network (SSFN) connecting the Swiss National Bank and the Swiss Stock Exchange (SIX) and the Swiss Secure Healthcare Network used by more than 30,000 doctors and government agencies. On May 7, 2024, Anapaya completed a financing of 10 million Swiss francs, invested by Cape Capital, SIX Fintech Venture Fund, and Nagy Moistafa. The funds will be used for Anapaya's industry and international business expansion.
