CATL Unveils Global Premiere of NP3.0 Battery Safety Technology and Shenxing Pro Batteries, Accelerating Expansion into European Market | Frontline Report
On September 7th, CATL globally launched its NP3.0 technology platform and the first lithium iron phosphate power battery product featuring this technology, the Shenxing Pro, in Munich, Germany.
According to CATL, the NP3.0 technology platform integrates the company's eight core technologies: flame - retardant electrolyte, flame - retardant safety separator, nano - dot coated cathode material, cell safety device, aerogel heat insulation pad, fire - resistant spray coating, circuit stability control technology, high - voltage active cooling technology, and system control strategy. In the event of thermal runaway, the NP3.0 technology can quickly block the spread of heat between cells, thereby preventing the battery pack from swelling and catching fire.
In addition, Zhu Lingbo, the CTO of CATL's International Business Unit, also stated that the NP3.0 technology can ensure stable power output of the vehicle under high - voltage conditions within one hour after a thermal runaway occurs in the battery pack. Thus, on highways, users can drive out of the danger zone in time to avoid secondary accidents.
The Shenxing Pro battery under CATL is the first product to be equipped with the NP3.0 technology. This battery uses the Wave cell and Cell to Body structural design. CATL said that the system grouping efficiency of the entire pack reaches 76%.
CATL released two versions of the Shenxing Pro battery this time, namely the long - life version and the ultra - fast charging version.
CATL introduced that when defining the long - life version battery, it took into account the cross - border long - distance travel needs of European users and the long - term leasing model in the European market. Therefore, the long - life version battery has a range of 758 km under the WLTP cycle and a lifespan of 12 years or 1 million kilometers, making it the longest - lasting product among global passenger car batteries at present.
The ultra - fast charging version battery addresses the need for rapid energy replenishment in the cold climate of Europe. This battery has a range of 683 km under the WLTP cycle and a peak charging rate of 12C. CATL said that this is the fastest - charging lithium iron phosphate battery in the European market. In an environment of minus 20°C, it only takes 20 minutes to charge the battery from 20% to 80%.
Against the backdrop of intense competition in the domestic market, CATL is accelerating its search for growth in overseas markets. Currently, CATL has established two production bases in Germany and Hungary in Europe, and the Spanish base will be put into production in 2026. With the launch of the NP3.0 technology and the Shenxing Pro battery, CATL's expansion into Europe may enter a new stage.
