As car manufacturers have clearly set the vehicle installation schedule for 2026 - 2027, the mass production of all-solid-state batteries is at a critical point. The BMW Group recently announced that it has first installed large-sized, pure all-solid-state battery cells (ASSB) provided by the US solid-state battery manufacturer Solid Power in a pure-electric BMW i7 test vehicle and conducted road tests in the Munich area.
Although neither BMW nor Solid Power has disclosed the specific parameters of the all-solid-state battery used in this road test, Solid Power's official website shows that the core technology of its all-solid-state battery is based on a sulfide solid electrolyte, with an energy density of 390Wh/kg (930Wh/L) and a cycle life of more than 1,000 times. "We expect that by 2028, the electrolyte production will reach the level required for 800,000 electric vehicles using all-solid-state batteries per year," Solid Power said. In China, more car manufacturers have successively announced their latest progress in the field of solid-state batteries. Before that, Feng Xingya, the general manager of GAC Group, said when talking about the development of solid-state batteries that the large-scale installation of solid-state batteries will be in 2028. Not only GAC and Changan, but also many other car manufacturers including SAIC Group, Changan Automobile, Chery Automobile, and BYD have announced their solid-state battery mass production plans. Among them, SAIC Group, Changan Automobile, and Chery Automobile all plan to achieve the mass production and installation of solid-state batteries in 2027. At the policy level, all-solid-state batteries are receiving strong support.
