There are more than 100,000 meteorological stations across China's 9.6 million square kilometers of land territory, while the number of observation equipment in its 4.93 million square kilometers of sea areas is less than 10,000: Kunyu Intelligence builds a "Smart Marine Brain" with data from more than 60 satellites.
When "El Niño" is no longer a professional term only known to a small group of people, when we repeatedly refresh our cognition of "once-in-a-century" natural disasters, when we find that weather forecasts are becoming increasingly accurate, did you know that human's cognition of ocean exploration still stays at the level of 30 years ago? With the rapid development of science and technology, while 9.6 million square kilometers of land territory is covered by more than 100,000 meteorological stations, the number of intelligent observation equipment in China's 4.93 million square kilometers of sea areas is less than 10,000. The vast sea areas still maintain the "depend on nature for harvest" mode that has lasted for thousands of years!
In 2019, a young team settled in Zhuhai, and obtained a multi-million RMB seed round investment from Zhuhai Zhengling within just a few months after its establishment. This team is called Kunyu Intelligence, a technical team determined to develop intelligent technologies and carry out disaster prevention and mitigation for the marine industry. Its founder Yuan Wentian once served as a specially invited expert in the Space Economy and Commercial Aerospace Professional Group of the National Satellite Meteorological Center of China Meteorological Administration and the Major Special Project Center of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. He is a senior expert deeply engaged in commercial aerospace data application and a serial entrepreneur. Co-founder Zhang Dongxiao is an academician of the US National Academy of Engineering, currently the Executive Vice President of Eastern Institute of Technology. He once served as Dean of the College of Engineering of Peking University, Dean of the Institute of Ocean Research of Peking University, and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Southern University of Science and Technology. He is an academic leader in the field of artificial intelligence. Devoting to the marine industry is the team's unanimous decision after in-depth analysis of the integrated application of commercial aerospace and artificial intelligence!
Why choose the direction of marine artificial intelligence? Yuan Wentian explained: First of all, we have spotted the "general trend". When the country mentions the marine industry for many times in various policies and documents, we know this "trend" is coming. Secondly, there are real pain point demands. Disasters faced by the ocean are more dangerous than those on land. We aim to build a "Smart Ocean Brain KingSmart" to enable all sectors of the marine industry to truly feel the "quality improvement, efficiency enhancement and loss reduction" brought by technology. For example, an accurate red tide prediction may reduce tens of millions of RMB of losses for oyster farmers. Thirdly, there is real willingness and capacity to pay. The marine industry is featured with high risks and high returns, and entities engaged in offshore energy, offshore platforms and mariculture all have strong payment capacity.
Then what pain points can the "Smart Ocean Brain KingSmart" solve? First of all, it addresses the difficulty in marine natural disaster risk prediction. As mentioned at the beginning, the available observation data for the ocean is very limited, and artificial intelligence relies on data as its "food". Without high-quality datasets, artificial intelligence can do nothing but sigh in the face of the ocean. This is exactly the unique advantage of Kunyu Intelligence: satellite data processing capability. Although Kunyu Intelligence has not launched any satellite on its own, it has access to data resources of more than 60 satellites. After years of accumulation, the team has already formed a complete set of operational data processing and production capabilities. The spatial resolution of data such as sea surface temperature, chlorophyll, suspended matter, sea fog, sea wind and ocean wave all reaches 1 kilometer. More importantly, these data have been verified by actual user measurements, and their accuracy is far higher than the marine parameters formed by numerical simulation on the market at present. Supported by this high-precision and high-resolution real-time field, the "Smart Ocean Brain KingSmart" can predict the sea conditions in the next 7 days, even 180 days. Secondly, it solves the marine-related vertical application problems. The "Smart Ocean Brain KingSmart" includes a set of self-developed vertical large model "Xuanyuan Marine Large Model". This model integrates the demands of marine scenarios such as mariculture and offshore wind power, and can provide reasonable and efficient industry solutions based on its own high-precision datasets.
At present, the team is deeply rooted in Zhuhai and has received full support from the Zhuhai Municipal Government. Leading marine enterprises including Zhuhai Ocean Group, Agricultural Control Group and Haijiayang have all extended olive branches to the team. The team has won high recognition and support from users in the fields of intelligent fishery breeding and marine risk management. At the same time, multiple early test users in vertical fields have accessed the "Smart Ocean Brain KingSmart". A tester from a southern mariculture enterprise said that this solution can monitor core elements such as water temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen in the breeding area in real time, and the advance amount of abnormal warning is more than double that of traditional services. It has helped the team avoid two red tide risks in advance, reducing nearly 30% of potential losses. In the future, the team will take the oceans of China and surrounding areas as the basis, and gradually form the base advantages of "global coverage + full-time domain monitoring, deep AI empowerment + satellite remote sensing, scenario-based customization + intelligent integration, low cost + high reliability + global replication", which has clear differentiated competitiveness compared with international meteorological giants, traditional satellite remote sensing enterprises and vertical scenario service providers.
According to data from industry reports, the global market size of related services was about 287.1 billion RMB in 2025, and it is expected to grow to 519.9 billion RMB by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.9%, showing a clear market growth space. In the future, the "Smart Ocean Brain KingSmart" solution can cover multiple fields such as global general scenarios, emerging country growth scenarios and energy security, and can meet the disaster prevention and mitigation demands of dozens of industries including electric power, environmental protection, agriculture, transportation, maritime affairs, insurance and low-altitude economy. It can provide corresponding services for different types of monitoring demands at point level, line level and regional level. The current project focuses on three high-value tracks with weak coverage from competitors and large market gaps, namely low-altitude, ocean and energy, which has considerable growth potential in the future.
Talking about the business model, the team is building a diversified and replicable revenue system, covering three core businesses: intelligent terminal sales, scenario-based precision tiered subscription services, and customized solutions for large institutions, which not only ensures stable cash flow, but also improves profitability through high-end customized services, with far stronger risk resistance than competitors with a single model. In terms of financing, the project currently plans to launch an angel round of financing, with a planned financing of 20 million RMB and 10% of equity to be released. The funds will be mainly used for computing hardware upgrading, regional data resource expansion, data platform opening and market business expansion.
