Drones fly into canyons and unmanned vessels sail far out to sea, but the sensed data cannot be transmitted back: Jianwei Intelligence uses a half-kilogram Loongson terminal to get through the satellite data backhaul link.
The large-scale advancement of the low-altitude economy and smart ocean industry has brought communication issues to the forefront: after drones fly into mountain canyons and unmanned ships sail to the open sea, how to transmit sensing data back to the ground continuously and reliably has become a common bottleneck restricting the implementation of relevant scenarios. Beijing Jianwei Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Jianwei Intelligence) enters this segment with satellite intelligent communication terminals based on the Loongson platform, and builds a cross-satellite real-time data service system relying on high-orbit satellites such as Tiantong. Currently in the seed stage, the company is promoting equity financing of 50 million to 100 million RMB.
Data backhaul is the short board restricting the large-scale implementation of unmanned systems
The sensing data generated by drone clusters, offshore buoys and marine unmanned systems keeps growing, while data transmission still remains a prominent weakness. Existing solutions all have their respective limitations: high-orbit broadband satellite terminals rely on narrow-beam antennas to align with satellites, which makes it difficult to maintain continuous communication under conditions of strong offshore wind and platform shaking. They also feature large size and high power consumption, making them hard to be installed on small-sized unmanned systems. The BeiDou short message service is oriented to positioning functions, and its message capacity cannot support continuous data streams. Tiantong terminals provide voice and narrowband data services with limited code rate. Ultra-short wave radio stations are restricted by the curvature of the Earth, and cannot support long-distance operations. Various satellite systems have long been organized in a "chimney-type" mode, forming data silos. Users usually need to be equipped with multiple types of communication devices at the same time, with weak capabilities in data processing and integration.
Policies are continuously expanding the market space of the industry. In 2026, the *Government Work Report* independently proposed to "accelerate the development of satellite Internet" for the first time, and aerospace industry was listed as an emerging pillar industry. In August 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the *Guiding Opinions on Optimizing Business Access to Promote the Development of Satellite Communication Industry*, which proposed to develop more than 10 million satellite communication users by 2030, and clearly organized to carry out commercial tests for satellite Internet of Things. In October the same year, the notice on commercial tests of satellite Internet of Things business was open for public comments, with a two-year test period targeting wide-area IoT connections in areas not covered by terrestrial networks such as the sky, oceans and remote regions.
Loongson, Tiantong and edge AI are integrated into a terminal weighing half a kilogram
Jianwei Intelligence's solution is an instant data service system integrating high and low orbit satellites. At the current stage, it takes the data enhancement service system based on Tiantong satellites as the breakthrough point, adopts the cloud-edge collaborative architecture, which is supported by the cooperation between the cloud platform and the edge end, and provides device access, data collection, protocol adaptation and device control under the software-defined framework. Jianwei Intelligence summarizes this design as allowing users to "turn on the data tap": the assets on the user side are as lightweight as possible, data processing and multi-source integration are completed on the platform side, and the system is compatible with the user's existing systems and equipment.
In terms of technology, Jianwei Intelligence builds differentiated competitiveness around four capabilities. The first is high-performance and reliable on-board computing based on Loongson, which adopts the fully independent and domestically produced Loongson platform, runs a hard real-time operating system. Jianwei Intelligence states that its real-time performance reaches the same level as VxWorks, with the characteristics of low power consumption, miniaturization and modularization. The second is the AI platform based on Loongson, which can load algorithm models according to application scenarios to complete the recognition of characteristic targets on land and ocean, with open software and hardware interfaces. The third is complex task planning and scheduling for high and low orbit satellite collaboration, covering orbit prediction, resource allocation and collaborative task planning for multiple types of on-orbit satellites. The fourth is the cross-satellite system instant data value-added service platform, which realizes the integration of wideband and narrowband data. Jianwei Intelligence says its service covers the range of 72 degrees north latitude to 72 degrees south latitude.
A complete product sequence has taken shape, including the Desert Cat portable satellite treasure series, the first-generation Tiantong satellite intelligent communication terminal, and the second-generation Loongson maritime satellite intelligent communication terminal. Public parameters show that the terminal works on Tiantong 01/02/03 satellites, with an uplink frequency band of 1980 to 2010 MHz, a downlink frequency band of 2170 to 2200 MHz, a weight of less than 0.5kg, dimensions of 116mm × 98mm × 28mm, bandwidth from 1.2kbps to 384kbps, maximum power consumption of 8W@12V, and is equipped with interfaces such as RS232, RS422, SPI, CAN, I2C and Ethernet port, supporting encrypted security instruction control, image data backhaul and high-dynamic data link establishment. Compared with the CCOM UAV200 terminal, which weighs 1.45kg, has a maximum power consumption of 28W and a maximum bandwidth of 200kbps, and does not have the capabilities of high-dynamic data link establishment and target recognition. Jianwei Intelligence states that this terminal realizes full domestic substitution for imported products. In terms of verification, the terminal has passed more than 90 days of continuous burn-in test and scenario test in the mountainous area of Mentougou, Beijing, and completed the accuracy test of satellite positioning data annotation. Relevant products have been tested and certified by the Space Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Institute of Product Quality Supervision and Inspection. In terms of intellectual property rights, the project has obtained more than 10 authorized invention patents.
Demonstration projects are carried out first, from Yangjiang offshore wind farm to the Andes Mountains
In terms of commercialization path, Jianwei Intelligence promotes business by carrying out joint demonstrations with universities, operators and leading enterprises in the industry, and its revenue comes from two parts: terminal hardware sales and data value-added services. The implemented and ongoing projects include: the signed comprehensive demonstration project of satellite emergency communication for CGN offshore wind farm and offshore pastures in Yangjiang, Guangdong, jointly carried out by Beihang University and the Maritime Division of China Unicom; the demonstration project of power grid monitoring and satellite emergency communication support under complex mountainous environment jointly carried out by Beihang University and China Southern Power Grid; the pilot project of long-term monitoring of complex environment of highway bridges and highway slopes and multi-source data integration in Hebei Province, jointly carried out by Beihang University and Xiong'an Aerospace Information Research Institute. In terms of overseas verification, the team completed the test and verification of smart pasture application scenarios in Kazakhstan in May 2025, and completed the scenario test in the Andes Mountains of Bolivia in August 2025, and carried out cross-satellite scenario tests and international training relying on the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific affiliated to the United Nations.
According to the development roadmap released by the team, the annual sales revenue of products and data services will reach 30 million RMB in 1 to 3 years, of which the Yangjiang CGN offshore wind farm project contributes more than 10 million RMB, and the Xiong'an special project in Hebei contributes 6 million RMB. In 3 to 5 years, the team will complete network access adaptation and market expansion with China SatNet, and achieve an annual output value of more than 200 million RMB.
Team with Beihang Laboratory background and next-step plans
The team background is the core asset of the project. Wang Xinsheng, founder and executive director, is the deputy director of the Microsatellite Technology Laboratory of Beihang University. He has long been engaged in the research of small satellite general technology, aerospace control and information management, once served as the person in charge of the QB50 international space environment scientific exploration project, and participated in the general expert group of major Sino-German international cooperation projects. Niu Jianwei, chief scientist, is a professor in the fields of computer vision, big data analysis and natural language processing, and once served as the chief expert of the key R&D program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Liu Rongke, director of communication technology, has research directions covering 5G-A/6G, satellite Internet and low-altitude economy. Positions including hardware, software, algorithm and simulation, finance, and overseas operation are all assigned to dedicated personnel. The team has accumulated many years of experience in the multidisciplinary integration of spacecraft design, aerospace control and aerospace communication.
The planned equity financing in this seed stage is 50 million to 100 million RMB, and the funds will be mainly used in three directions: application expansion of the satellite intelligent communication terminal series in scenarios such as unmanned systems, smart ocean and emergency management, and development of industry users; general design and development of software-defined satellites, technical optimization of hard real-time operating systems, lightweight trusted encryption technology, and research and development of digital twin systems for application scenarios; preliminary expansion of the international market in countries along the Belt and Road, and expansion of the core team.
It should be noted that the bandwidth upper limit of the Tiantong link determines the application boundary. The rate of 384kbps can only carry lightweight data such as text, positioning and compressed images. The differentiation of Jianwei Intelligence is more reflected in the edge side, which uses AI recognition to apply the limited bandwidth to the most necessary data, and improves the overall resource efficiency through high and low orbit collaborative scheduling. At the same time, the commercial test of satellite IoT business is still in progress, and the market access and large-scale volume rhythm of terminal manufacturers depend on policy implementation and constellation resource supply. For Jianwei Intelligence, converting the signed demonstration projects into replicable industry orders is the key for the next stage.
