36Kr Global · Middle East | Qatar Financial Centre visits China and signs two memoranda of understanding to deepen financial, economic and trade cooperation with China
The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) delegation has recently concluded its visit to China. During the visit, the delegation signed two memoranda of understanding in Beijing and Hong Kong respectively, aiming to strengthen financial and trade cooperation between Qatar and Asian markets.
This visit was led by Mansoor al-Khater, CEO of QFC. In addition to signing the cooperation agreements, the delegation also held talks with a number of business leaders and investors, and attended the 2026 Belt and Road Summit Forum held in Hong Kong.
During the special session on emerging markets and the Belt and Road Initiative at the forum, Mansoor al-Khater stated that future economic cooperation will no longer be limited to traditional infrastructure construction, but will further expand to emerging fields such as green energy, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.
He pointed out that to translate these cooperative ties into long-term economic opportunities, four key areas need to be focused on: ensuring the financial and commercial feasibility of projects, building a sound industrial ecosystem to support project implementation, broadening funding sources, and cultivating professional talents and technical capabilities required to support sustainable growth.
At the same time, the importance of digital infrastructure is becoming increasingly prominent. Fields such as data infrastructure, digital financial systems, smart cities and digital government platforms are becoming new directions for cooperation.
These development trends also create opportunities for Qatar to attract enterprises to enter the Middle East market. Relying on its own legal and regulatory framework, as well as institutional structures including funds, holding companies and capital management centers, QFC can provide support for enterprises to carry out cross-border investment.
- In Beijing, QFC signed a memorandum of understanding with the Beijing Financial Street Service Bureau, aiming to strengthen the ties between the two financial centers and jointly carry out cooperation projects through the exchange of knowledge, professional experience and talents.
- In Hong Kong, QFC signed another memorandum of understanding with the Belt and Road General Chamber of Commerce. The two sides will strengthen business ties between the two regions by jointly organizing business exchange activities, enterprise matchmaking meetings, and sharing information on market opportunities and industry development.
QFC stated that the two agreements signed this time are important measures to deepen economic relations with China and expand institutional partnerships and investment opportunities in the Asian region.
