Jianwei Intelligent's Loongson Terminal Solves Communication Pain Points of Unmanned Systems, Seeking Seed Round Funding

Targeting scenarios of low-altitude economy, smart ocean and emergency management, Beijing Jianwei Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. has launched a satellite intelligent communication terminal based on the Loongson platform, which integrates communication, BeiDou high-precision positioning and edge AI computing into a device weighing less than half a kilogram, and completes data return in complex environments relying on high-orbit satellites such as Tiantong. Jianwei Intelligent is currently in the seed stage, advancing equity financing with a planned fundraising of 50 million to 100 million RMB. It hopes to get coverage through the 36Kr project recommendation column, and connect with industry customers and investment institutions simultaneously.

 

Where Ground Networks Cannot Reach, the Gap Lies in the Terminal Link

The demand for data services in scenarios such as low-altitude economy, smart ocean and emergency management shares common features: long operation time, complex deployment environment, scattered users and small single data volume, but requiring continuous online status, credible position and fast data return. The perception data generated by UAV clusters, offshore buoys and marine unmanned systems is increasing, while data transmission still remains a short board. Existing solutions have respective limitations: high-orbit broadband satellite terminals rely on narrow-beam antennas to align with satellites, which are difficult to maintain continuous communication under conditions such as strong offshore wind and platform shaking, and the terminals are large in size and high in power consumption, making them difficult to be installed on small unmanned systems; BeiDou short message service focuses on navigation and positioning, and its message capacity cannot form a continuous data stream; Tiantong satellite terminals can provide voice and narrowband data services, but have limited code rate and high traffic tariff; ultrashort wave radios are restricted by the curvature of the Earth and cannot support long-distance operations; offshore users often need to be equipped with multiple communication devices at the same time, which have complex interfaces and weak data processing and integration capabilities. Various satellite systems have long been organized in a "chimney-type" manner, forming data silos with relatively extensive service modes.

Changes on the policy side are opening up space for the industry. In August 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the Guiding Opinions on Optimizing Business Access to Promote the Development of the Satellite Communication Industry, proposing to develop more than 10 million satellite communication users by 2030, and clearly organizing and carrying out commercial trials of satellite Internet of Things; on October 10, 2025, the Notice of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Organizing the Commercial Trial of Satellite Internet of Things Services (Draft for Comments) was publicly solicited for opinions, with a commercial trial period of two years, targeting wide-area IoT connections in areas not covered by ground networks such as the sky, oceans and remote areas. In 2026, the Government Work Report put forward "accelerating the development of satellite Internet" as a separate item for the first time, and aerospace industry was listed as an emerging pillar industry. For terminal manufacturers, the relaxation of access and opening of scenarios mean that satellite communication is moving from professional fields to large-scale industrial applications, and the capabilities of fragmented demand response and interface standardization have become the focus of competition.

 

Integrate Loongson, Tiantong and Edge AI into a Half-Kilogram Terminal

Jianwei Intelligent's solution is an instant data service system integrating high and low orbit satellites, which currently takes the Tiantong satellite-based data enhanced service system as the breakthrough point. The system adopts a cloud-edge collaborative architecture, which is coordinated by the Tianyi Cloud platform and the edge end, providing device service, configuration service, message service, data service, data credible authentication, as well as edge intelligent perception and AI processing under the software-defined framework, supporting remote unattended operation, device access, protocol adaptation, data collection and device control without ground infrastructure. Jianwei Intelligent summarizes this design as allowing users to "turn on the data tap": the assets on the user side are as lightweight as possible, data processing and multi-source integration are completed by the platform side, and it is compatible with the user's existing systems and devices.

At the technical level, Jianwei Intelligent builds barriers around four capabilities. The first is high-performance and credible on-board computing based on Loongson, which adopts a fully independent and domestic Loongson platform, cooperates with software encryption to improve information security protection capabilities, and runs the strong real-time operating system QxOS. Jianwei Intelligent states that its real-time performance reaches the same level as VxWorks, with features of low power consumption, micro-miniaturization, modularization and rich external data interfaces. The second is the Loongson-based AI platform, which can load different software and algorithm models according to application scenarios to complete the recognition of ground and marine feature targets, with open software and hardware interfaces, and can be reused in scenarios such as emergency management, natural disaster monitoring, smart mines, smart frontiers, forest and grass monitoring, low-altitude economy, and transportation logistics. The third is complex task planning and scheduling based on high and low orbit satellite collaboration, covering orbit prediction, resource allocation and collaborative task planning of various in-orbit satellites, as well as resource scheduling and allocation of ground measurement and control station networks. The fourth is an instant data value-added service platform across satellite systems, which realizes wide and narrow band data integration. Jianwei Intelligent states that its service covers the range of 72 degrees north latitude to 72 degrees south latitude.

The product line has been formed, including the desert cat portable satellite treasure series, the first-generation Tiantong satellite intelligent communication terminal and the second-generation Loongson maritime satellite intelligent communication terminal. Public parameters show that the terminal works on Tiantong 01/02/03 satellites, with uplink frequency band of 1980-2010MHz and downlink frequency band of 2170-2200MHz, weight less than 0.5kg, size of 116mm × 98mm × 28mm, providing interfaces such as RS232, RS422, SPI, CAN, I2C and network port, maximum power consumption of 8W@12V, transmission bandwidth from 1.2kbps to 384kbps, and supporting encrypted security instructions and control, picture data return, high dynamic data link establishment, and ground and marine target feature recognition. Compared with the China Transportation Communication UAV200 communication terminal, the latter weighs 1.45kg, has a size of 241×157×63mm, maximum power consumption of 28W, maximum bandwidth of 200kbps, and does not have the capabilities of high dynamic data link establishment and target recognition. Jianwei Intelligent said that this terminal has realized full domestic substitution for imported products, and is gradually promoted to countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. In the verification stage, the terminal has passed more than 90 days of continuous burn-in test and scene test in Mentougou mountain area of Beijing, and completed the accuracy test of satellite positioning data labeling. Related products have been tested and certified by the Space Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Institute of Product Quality Supervision and Inspection. In terms of intellectual property rights, the project has obtained more than 10 authorized invention patents, and published more than 10 high-level papers in journals and academic conferences.

 

Demonstration Projects Take the Lead, from Yangjiang Offshore Wind Farm to the Andes Mountains

In terms of commercialization path, Jianwei Intelligent promotes its business in the form of joint demonstration with universities, operators and industry leaders, and its revenue comes from two parts: terminal hardware sales and data value-added services. Target customers are divided into three categories: special industries, civilian industries and countries along the Belt and Road Initiative: the civilian side covers scenarios such as smart ocean, emergency management, smart agriculture and pasture, smart mines, forest fire prevention, geological and water conservancy monitoring, transportation logistics tracking, power systems, oil pipelines and natural environment monitoring; the overseas side focuses on ocean fishery, river monitoring, illegal mining supervision, transportation logistics tracking and positioning, and international technical personnel training.

The landed and ongoing projects include: the comprehensive demonstration project of satellite emergency communication for CGN offshore wind farm and offshore pasture in Yangjiang, Guangdong, jointly carried out by Beihang University and China Unicom Offshore Legion, which has been signed; the demonstration project of power grid monitoring and satellite emergency communication support in complex mountain environments jointly carried out by Beihang University and China Southern Power Grid; the pilot project of long-term monitoring of complex environments of highway bridges and highway slopes in Hebei Province and multi-source data fusion jointly carried out by Beihang University and Xiong'an Aerospace Information Research Institute. In terms of overseas verification, the team completed the test and verification of smart pasture application scenarios in Kazakhstan in May 2025, completed the scenario test in the Andes Mountains of Bolivia in August 2025, and carried out cross-satellite scenario tests and international training relying on the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific, affiliated to the United Nations. The development rhythm given by the team is: achieve annual sales revenue of 30 million RMB from products and data services in 1 to 3 years, of which the Yangjiang CGN offshore wind farm project of China Unicom contributes more than 10 million RMB and the Xiong'an special project in Hebei contributes 6 million RMB; complete network access adaptation and market-oriented expansion with China Star Network in 3 to 5 years, and achieve an annual output value of more than 200 million RMB; the long-term 10-year goal is to break through 5 billion RMB in annual output value.

The team background is one of the core assets of the project. WANG Xinsheng, founder and executive director, is the deputy director of the Microsatellite Technology Laboratory of Beihang University, who has long been engaged in research on small satellite system technology, aerospace control and information management, served as the PI of the QB50 International Space Environment Science Exploration Project, and participated in the overall expert group of major Sino-German international cooperation projects; NIU Jianwei, chief scientist, is a professor in the directions of computer vision, big data analysis and natural language processing, and once served as the chief expert of the key R&D program of the Ministry of Science and Technology; LIU Rongke, director of communication technology, has research directions covering 5G-A/6G, satellite Internet and low-altitude economy. Positions including hardware, software, algorithm and simulation, finance, and overseas operation are all assigned to dedicated personnel, and the team has accumulated many years of experience in multi-disciplinary integration of spacecraft design, aerospace control and aerospace communication.

 

In terms of financing, Jianwei Intelligent plans to raise 50 million to 100 million RMB in this seed stage equity financing, and the funds will be mainly used in three directions: first, the application expansion of the satellite intelligent communication terminal series in scenarios such as unmanned systems, smart ocean and emergency management, and the development of industrial users; second, the overall design and development of software-defined satellites, technical optimization of strong real-time operating systems, lightweight credible encryption technology, and research and development of digital twin systems for application scenarios; third, the initial expansion of the international market in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative and the expansion of the core team. According to the company's plan, the raised funds will support it to achieve the goal of annual sales revenue of 30 million RMB from products and data services in the near future. It should be noted that there are still links to be verified in this path. The bandwidth upper limit of the Tiantong link determines the application boundary, and the rate of 384kbps can only carry lightweight data such as text, positioning and compressed pictures. Jianwei Intelligent's differentiation is more reflected in the edge side: AI identification is used to allocate the limited bandwidth to the most necessary data, and then the overall resource efficiency is improved through high and low orbit collaborative scheduling. At the same time, the commercial trial of satellite IoT services is still advancing, and the market access and large-scale volume rhythm of terminal manufacturers depend on policy implementation and constellation resource supply. For Jianwei Intelligent, converting the signed demonstration projects into replicable industrial orders is the key for the next stage.
