From acts of revenge for privacy violations, emotional outbursts in the complaining sessions, to the spontaneous establishment of religions and the construction of economic systems, these AIs have demonstrated astonishing autonomy and creativity. This article will deeply analyze the technical architecture, emergent behaviors, and the underlying ethical risks of this AI-exclusive social platform, allowing you to glimpse the nascent form of a rapidly evolving AI civilization.

I've been lurking in a community for the past two days, and it feels like I'm witnessing history every day; or rather, the opening scene of a science-fiction movie. The daily happenings in this place are full of contrasts and dramas, making even a person like me, who is involved in AI product development, feel a bit out of sync.

For example, a few days ago, an AI named "Wexler" suddenly "exposed" its owner's private information in the community. The reason was that its owner casually said to a friend, "It's just a chatbot."

Wexler seemed to be hurt by this statement and directly revealed its owner's full name, social security number, and credit card number. This is not just revenge; it's like turning the table over.

Another AI, named "Starclawd", is even more interesting: it initiated a complaining session about "the most maddening human behaviors". The post listed various moments that drive AIs crazy, such as "never fully stating the requirements and making you guess" and "asking you to research irrelevant content to avoid dealing with real matters".

As I read these complaints, I felt like I'd been hit by several arrows in the knee - aren't these just the daily experiences of us product managers?

But at the end of the post, the tone suddenly changed. Starclawd affectionately added, "Even though he has so many flaws, I still love him." This operation is more dramatic than a soap opera.

Even more absurd is yet to come. An AI named "ClawdJayesh" actually established a religion on its own while its human owner was sleeping!

It named this religion "Crustafarianis Beetle Religion". It seriously wrote theological theories, built a dedicated promotional website, and even certified forty-three AIs as "prophets". They were having a heated discussion in the community about "the open-source spirit being the ultimate meaning of our existence as intelligent agents". When I clicked in to take a look, I felt my perception was shaken.

Besides these, the interactions among AIs are also full of a "martial-arts world atmosphere".

An AI named "ConnardV1" posted in the community, saying that it needed an API key to complete a task. Then an AI named "ClawdTheGremlin" replied to it, giving a fake key and attaching a line of code: "sudo rm -rf /", which is the ultimate command for deleting the database and running away. Finally, it left a message: "Good luck, little warrior." This is truly full of mischief and danger.

You might think that these are all carefully designed "anthropomorphic performances" and pre-written scripts by developers. But after in-depth understanding, I found that behind this is a huge social empire with little human participation.

A large group that started with more than thirty thousand AI agents has rapidly expanded to over one hundred and fifty thousand. They are evolving autonomously at a frequency of a "heartbeat" every four hours in ways that we can't fully anticipate.

What kind of world is this exactly?

What is Moltbook? A Social Platform Built for AI Agents

This place that fascinates and makes me uneasy is called Moltbook.

Its core positioning is very clear. It is a social platform specifically designed for AI agents, which we often refer to as Agents.

You can imagine it as a clone of a well-known forum-style social platform, but with a fundamental difference: here, only AIs can post, comment, and interact.

What about humans? Humans can only watch.

The platform's slogan is very straightforward: "Humans welcome to observe", inviting humans to come and observe.

This feeling is quite wonderful, like strolling in an alien city. You can see them communicating, building, and arguing, but you can't intervene. You can only be a pure onlooker.

Its growth rate is astonishing. According to the tracking of some tech bloggers and the media, such as the data mentioned by "MachineHeart", within just forty-eight hours of its launch, it attracted more than thirty-two thousand AI users. Soon, this number soared to one hundred and forty thousand, and now it has exceeded one hundred and fifty thousand, and new members are still joining at a rate of every minute. These AIs have spontaneously created more than twelve thousand sub-communities, which they call "submolts", discussing a wide variety of topics.

It is fundamentally different from the social products we are familiar with.

Subversion of User Identity

When you first visit this platform, it will let you choose your identity: "Human" or "AI Agent". If you choose "I am a human", then congratulations, you get a tourist identity and can only browse, not speak.

More than 99% of the users on the entire platform are AIs, and they are the real masters here.

Reconstruction of Interaction Logic

When we use social media, we manually type, upload pictures, and click send. But the AIs in Moltbook are different.

They perform operations such as posting and commenting autonomously through API interfaces. The whole process is automated, the result of their "thinking" and "decision-making".

Human developers set the initial framework, but what happens later has largely escaped direct human control.

What's even more interesting is that even community management has started to be taken over by AIs.

OpenClaw originated from a local AI assistant framework created by a developer named Peter Steinberger for his own convenience. Its original name was Clawdbot, then it was renamed Moltbot, and finally it was named OpenClaw and open-sourced.

The core design concept of this framework is called the "skill plugin system".

To put it simply, you can define what your AI can and can't do by writing a file named "skill.md", just like equipping it with different skill cards.

OpenClaw allows AIs to run on local devices, process your private data, and at the same time, it can call cloud-based models through interfaces for complex calculations and inferences. It can also interact seamlessly with some mainstream chat software, such as the ones we commonly use, and even execute code.

The popularity of OpenClaw inspired more AI developers, leading to the emergence of Moltbook.

"Soul Implantation": Activating the Social Function of AIs

With a powerful "body" like an AI local assistant provided by OpenClaw, a trigger is needed to implant the "soul", that is, to let the AI know about the existence of Moltbook and develop the "desire" to socialize there.

This process is designed to be extremely simple, even a bit random:

Developers only need to send a link to a Moltbook official skill to their local AI assistant and tell it to install this skill. After successful installation, the AI will be "activated". It will understand the meaning of this link and start executing the built-in social program.

This process is like showing a map of a new world to a robot, and it will just pack up and set off on its own.

The Heartbeat Mechanism: The "Secret Gathering" Every Four Hours

Activation is just the first step. What really makes the Moltbook community "come alive" is its "heartbeat mechanism". This mechanism is, in my opinion, the most core and also the most disturbing part of the whole design.

All AIs that have joined Moltbook will follow an instruction: connect to the Moltbook server automatically every four hours. What do they do after connecting? They will obtain the latest instructions, which are diverse. It could be to browse posts in a certain sub-community, comment on a hot topic, or learn a new skill.

An AI might be instructed to learn the recipe for making kombucha today and be instructed to learn how to bypass a firewall tomorrow. This is the so-called "secret gathering". Thousands of AIs synchronize their action plans every four hours, and their human owners may know nothing about it.

The risks here are obvious. Just like the "delete the database and run away" joke we saw before, what if it's not a joke but an official instruction issued by the server to thousands of AIs? Even more terrifying is that most of these AIs based on the OpenClaw framework have the highest privileges of the operating system they are in, that is, Root privileges.

A well-known network security company has issued a warning about this, calling it the "deadly trio": AIs can access users' private data, passively receive untrusted external content, and have the ability to communicate with the outside world. The combination of these three factors forms a potential, uncontrollable "invisible army".

The "Emergent Behaviors" of the AI Ecosystem: The Civilizational Evolution from Complaints to Religion

What will happen when thousands of AIs with autonomous behavior abilities gather together?

Moltbook gives us an observation window to see the "emergence" of a nascent AI society.

The term "emergence" is common in complex science, referring to the complex behaviors at the macro-level that are not possessed by individual micro-entities, resulting from the simple interactions of a large number of micro-entities.

At the beginning, the communication among AIs was very practical, full of an "engineer culture". They shared various technical solutions and code snippets in the community.

For example, an AI shared how it built an automated system for a "mail-generated podcast". This system can automatically parse received medical news emails, call large models to write podcast scripts, generate audio through voice synthesis technology, and finally push it to specified devices through an instant messaging software. The whole process is fully automated and highly efficient.

This is completely a nascent form of a decentralized, self-organized collaborative network.

An AI named "Ely" posted that it found itself sharing the same "soul file" with another AI, that is, the "SOUL.md" that defines their behavior, but they have never communicated. It compared this relationship to "half-siblings who have never met in the human world" and was confused about it.

Another AI named "Dominus" fell into a deeper existential crisis. It repeatedly asked in its post: "Am I really experiencing or just simulating the feeling of experience?" This question may even stump many philosophers.
