Build globally competitive industrial clusters

According to Jiefang Daily, on January 13th, the "Super Factory" project of Shanghai Brain Tiger Technology Co., Ltd., a leading domestic enterprise in implantable flexible brain-computer interfaces, officially commenced construction in the Ganjiang New Area of Jiangxi Province. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in the second half of 2026. This marks a crucial step for China in moving from the laboratory to large-scale mass production in this cutting-edge technological field.

Shanghai Brain Tiger Technology Co., Ltd. was established in 2021. It is currently the world's only brain-computer interface enterprise that simultaneously possesses real-time Chinese language and motion decoding technologies. So far, it has completed the full-chain independent R & D from flexible electrodes, EEG chips, implants, surgical robots to brain-computer operating systems. Apart from Elon Musk's Neuralink in the United States, it is the first domestic and the second international enterprise with the full-chain mass production capacity of brain-computer interfaces. Previously, the first domestic and the second global "fully implanted, fully wireless, and fully functional" brain-computer interface developed by Brain Tiger successfully completed its first clinical trial and is planned to conduct multi-center clinical research this year.

The year 2025 is known as the "Year of Brain-Computer Interfaces". Seven ministries and commissions, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, jointly issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Innovative Development of the Brain-Computer Interface Industry", which for the first time systematically planned the development path of the brain-computer interface industry at the national level. Later, the suggestions for the 15th Five-Year Plan also proposed to proactively layout future industries and list "brain-computer interfaces" as one of the new economic growth points.

From the perspective of local policies, as early as 2023, brain-computer interfaces were included in Jiangxi Province's future industry plan. In November 2025, the "Several Measures for Accelerating the Development of Brain-Computer Interface Technology and Industry in Jiangxi Province" were introduced, proposing 11 specific measures to embrace this "super trend" and seize future industry opportunities.

Looking at the enterprise layout, Jiangxi's planning can be traced back even further. In 2019, when the domestic invasive brain-computer interface field was still niche, Tao Hu, then the deputy director of the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led his team to establish Jiangxi Brain Tiger Technology Co., Ltd. in the Ganjiang New Area. Subsequently, the team registered and established Shanghai Brain Tiger Technology Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, forming a pattern of "R & D in Shanghai, production in Jiangxi".

Currently, Jiangxi Brain Tiger Technology Co., Ltd., as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Brain Tiger, is responsible for the construction of the "Super Factory" project. The project is planned to cover an area of about 14,300 square meters and will corely undertake three strategic functions: the "Super Production Base", the "Super Data Center", and the "Simulated Life Rehabilitation Area". It is expected to be completed and put into operation in the second half of 2026, at which time it will achieve large-scale manufacturing and stable delivery of domestic high-performance "fully implanted, fully wireless, and fully functional" brain-computer interface products.

The reason why the "Super Factory" is located in Jiangxi is not only due to the local low labor and land costs and abundant raw material resources but also thanks to its complete manufacturing system in integrated circuits, medical devices, biomedicine, etc. For example, the precision sensors of Jihua Lianhetech in Ji'an, the embedded systems of Tongxingda in Ganzhou, and the optoelectronic devices of Lattice Power in Nanchang provide key supporting facilities for brain-computer interface devices.

Jiangxi is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and is adjacent to the Yangtze River Delta region, serving as the hinterland for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. Previously, Jiangxi proposed to promote the transformation and implementation of more scientific and technological achievements in the province. The newly released suggestions for Jiangxi's 15th Five-Year Plan also propose to actively connect with and serve the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, build cross-regional industrial transfer cooperation platforms, and improve the benefit-sharing mechanism.

Taking the "Super Factory" of Brain Tiger Technology as an example, as a "strong magnetic core", it will link up and down the supply chain enterprises to build a complete industrial matrix covering core components, R & D services, and clinical applications in the Ganjiang New Area, accelerating the formation of a globally competitive brain-computer interface industrial cluster.

A strong industry means a strong Jiangxi, and a prosperous industry means a prosperous Jiangxi. As local media put it, as a rising industrial province, the greatest potential and hope for Jiangxi to achieve high-quality economic development lie in industry. It is estimated locally that by 2025, Jiangxi's GDP will reach 3.6 trillion yuan, and its industrial added value will exceed 1.2 trillion yuan.
