The battery capacity of new domestic mobile phones has reached 10,000mAh, leaving iPhone and power banks speechless.
In July this year, the Honor X70 was released, featuring long battery life. Its battery capacity is as high as 8300mAh, setting a new record for mobile phone batteries.
However, this record is about to be broken soon.
Several new phones with a battery capacity exceeding 10000mAh are on the way, and range anxiety may become history!
Phones with 10000mAh batteries are being tested, and iPhone remains silent
On November 11th, according to the blogger @Digital Chat, a certain manufacturer's super-large battery of 10000mAh± has successfully passed the trial mold, and the plan can be promoted to mass production.
According to the blogger's hint, this battery may be installed in the new Redmi phone.
Another manufacturer is also testing two new phones with large batteries of 10000mAh±. One is equipped with the Dimensity 8500 chip, and the other uses the lower-end Snapdragon 7 series chip.
Combining the existing information, the former is most likely the Honor Power 2, and the latter may be the Honor X80, which is expected to be unveiled in the first quarter of next year.
Comparing with Apple's latest iPhone 17 series, the actual battery capacity of the Pro Max is about 5000mAh, and the Air model only has 3149mAh.
At this evolutionary speed of domestic phones, power banks are about to become unsalable.
So, what changes will occur after the battery capacity soars?
Let's first look at the battery life performance. Taking the Honor X70, the mass-produced model with the largest battery capacity on the market, as an example, it is equipped with the third-generation Qinghai Lake battery.
With a battery capacity as high as 8300mAh, it can play short videos continuously for up to 27 hours. In daily use, ordinary moderate and light users can easily achieve one charge every two days.
This 10000mAh battery has a larger capacity than the 8300mAh battery of the Honor X70. If the energy efficiency ratio remains unchanged, the battery life will increase by 20.5% synchronously. The short video playback duration may reach 30 hours, and it is expected to achieve one charge every three days in daily use.
As for the weight issue that everyone is more concerned about, the two manufacturers have revealed little information.
Only the blogger @Digital Chat previously reported that a mid-range phone equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 processor will be equipped with a 10000mAh± battery, with a thickness of only 8.Xmm.
This is most likely the Honor Power 2.
The first-generation Honor Power standard version has a battery capacity of 8000mAh and a thickness of 7.98mm. The thickness of the new model only increases by a few millimeters, and the weight is estimated to increase by more than a dozen grams.
The weight of the Honor X70 is 193 grams. The battery of the Honor X80 has an additional 1700mAh, and it is expected to be between 210 - 220 grams.
Behind the soaring battery capacity
Careful friends should have noticed that around 2019, the battery capacity of mainstream domestic smartphones mostly concentrated between 4000 and 4500mAh. But the progress of battery technology in the past two years has been so rapid that it has now directly soared to the 10000mAh level.
At that time, most people used 4G, and high-refresh rate screens were not yet standard. Such a battery capacity could basically meet the daily light use of users. However, once using the phone heavily, "charging several times a day" or relying on power banks was still the norm.
With the gradual popularization of 5G networks, 120Hz high-refresh rate screens, and AI functions, the power consumption of mobile phones has increased, and users' demand for battery life has also become higher and higher. This has forced more manufacturers to continuously invest energy in battery technology.
Technically, the mature application of silicon-carbon anode materials has become a key breakthrough.
The energy density of traditional graphite anodes has a natural bottleneck, while the theoretical capacity of silicon materials is much higher. Domestic manufacturers have well controlled the volume expansion problem of silicon materials during charging and discharging by optimizing the nano-coating process, enabling the battery energy density to increase steadily.
The higher the energy density, the larger the battery capacity under the same volume.
For example, the Magic V5 folding screen phone released by Honor in July this year is equipped with the world's first Qinghai Lake blade battery. The single-layer lamination thickness is only 0.18mm, so thin that it can cut tofu, which has become a hit across the network.
The energy density of this battery reaches 901Wh/L, and the capacity also reaches 6100mAh.
Now, the ability to fit a 10000mAh large battery into a mobile phone is precisely due to the accumulation of these previous technologies.
In addition, the popularization of fast charging technologies of 120W and above has also solved the problem of slow charging that large batteries may bring, achieving a good balance between large capacity and convenient energy replenishment.
Large-capacity batteries become a trend, targeting mid-range and low-end phones
It is worth noting that judging from the current actions of various manufacturers, 10000mAh-level large batteries are mainly used in mid-range and low-end phones.
This is because large batteries do take up a relatively large volume, and other configurations need to be compromised, such as using mid-range and low-end chips, small-sized motors, etc., and the heat dissipation will also be simplified.
For outdoor users, they need mobile phones with longer battery life, shock resistance, and waterproof performance. These practical attributes are more important than the powerful performance of flagship phones.
Just like the already released Honor X70, with an official starting price of 1399 yuan and a national subsidy price starting from 1189.15 yuan, it is the first model in the industry to reach the IP69K industrial waterproof standard and has achieved nautical-grade sealed protection. The anti-shock height of the phone has also been increased from 2 meters of the Honor X60 to 2.5 meters.
However, the upcoming new phones will also face another test. It is still unclear whether they can maintain the previous configuration and price.
According to the "Korea Economic Daily", major supply chain companies such as Samsung and SK Hynix will raise the prices of DRAM and NAND flash memory by up to 30%.
DRAM is what we commonly call running memory, which determines how many apps a mobile phone can open simultaneously. Its price increase trend will continue until 2026; while NAND flash memory determines how many photos, videos, and chat records we can store. The price increase may last until 2028 or even longer.
This wave of price increases has affected many mobile phones, especially mid-range and low-end models that are price-sensitive.
And these large-capacity battery phones happen to be concentrated in this price range and are planned to be launched next year, so the subsequent prices are likely to be affected.
Of course, super-large-capacity batteries are definitely the future trend, and we will see more and more mobile phones equipped with giant batteries in the future.
Maybe, it is really possible to fast charge electric cars.
