Previously, ifanr reported that Apple was internally developing a new computer equipped with a smartphone chip. Now, more information about this product has emerged: it will feature an LCD screen, be powered by a smartphone chip, and run macOS. Apple is currently testing this MacBook, codenamed J700, and it is expected to be released in the first half of next year.

By using a more affordable LCD screen and equipping it with the same A18 Pro chip as the iPhone, as well as reducing the costs of other components, Apple is likely to keep the price of this new computer around $600 - almost the same as the iPhone 16e.

Considering Apple's long - standing educational discount policy for its computers, the actual purchase price may be even lower than that of the cheapest iPhone.

Bloomberg also pointed out that the screen size of the new MacBook will be slightly smaller than the current 13.6 - inch MacBook Air, possibly around 12.9 inches, making it the smallest Apple laptop currently available.
