Ultraman just posted a message saying that there is 10GW of nuclear explosion-level computing power, with the computing power equivalent to that of a nuclear power plant being added every week, and the official announcement of five new cities.
Following NVIDIA's investment of hundreds of billions in OpenAI, the "Stargate" project immediately announced the addition of five new sites, aiming to reach the 10GW target by the end of the year. Altman posted that the goal is to build a "AI factory" capable of producing GW-level output per week, and the infinite computing power of AI may cure cancer.
Yesterday, NVIDIA invested hundreds of billions to help OpenAI build a 10GW supercomputing center.
Today, the five new sites of the $500 billion "Stargate" project were officially announced. It is expected that OpenAI will achieve the 10GW computing power target ahead of schedule by the end of the year.
The five sites are located in: Texas, Ohio, New Mexico, and one in the Midwest.
The total computing power of the five new sites, combined with the first Abilene supercomputing center and the CoreWeave project, will reach 7GW with an investment of $400 billion over the next three years.
Also today, Altman updated a blog post - The Age of Abundant Intelligence, further clarifying that the large-scale construction of supercomputing will unleash the full potential of AI.

His vision is simple - to build a new AI factory capable of producing GW-level output per week.
It is reported that OpenAI consumes nearly 500 billion kWh of electricity for computing power in a year, which is equivalent to four times the annual electricity consumption of Beijing.
Jensen Huang said in a recent interview that in the future, every word, every image, and every interaction will be completed by AI.
This is just the initial 10GW. AI infrastructure will be ubiquitous, powering everyone's daily computing.
"Stargate" Gets an Upgrade
Five Sites Announced
In January this year, OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank jointly announced the $500 billion "Stargate" project at the White House.
It is expected to build a 10GW data center capacity in the next five years.
At that time, the ultimate goal of this project was to build a powerful computing platform for the next generation of AI research.
Now, with the announcement of the five new sites, the total capacity of the "Stargate" project will reach nearly 7GW and the investment will exceed $400 billion in the next three years.
They were all selected through a national selection process in January this year, and more sites will be announced in the future.
The five new data center sites specifically include -
Shackelford County, Texas
Milam County, Texas: Cooperating with SB Energy under SoftBank, relying on its power infrastructure for rapid construction
Lordstown, Ohio: Led by SoftBank, planned to be put into operation next year
Dona Ana County, New Mexico: Providing efficient AI infrastructure for the Southwest
Midwest site: The specific location will be announced soon
These sites, together with the first "Stargate" supercomputing park in Abilene and the potential expansion capacity of 600MW in the surrounding area, will provide more than 5.5GW of computing power.
In addition, two sites jointly developed by SoftBank and OpenAI will add 1.5GW of capacity in the next 18 months.
These sites are expected to create more than 25,000 jobs and tens of thousands of additional job opportunities across the United States.
In July this year, OpenAI reached an agreement with Oracle to develop an additional capacity of up to 4.5GW for the "Stargate" project, with an investment of $300 billion in the next five years.
Oracle began delivering the first batch of NVIDIA GB200 racks in June, and OpenAI started early training and inference based on them.
In response, Altman said, "Only when we build the computing power to drive AI can the potential of AI be realized."
This computing power is the key to ensuring that AI benefits everyone and unlocking future breakthroughs.
Through the "Stargate" project, we are making historical progress towards this goal and taking rapid action. We not only aim to fulfill our initial commitment but also lay the foundation for future development.
These views can be glimpsed in Altman's new blog post today.
Can 10GW End Cancer?
Now, the growth rate of AI services is already astonishing, and the future development will be even more exaggerated.
As AI becomes smarter, using AI will become the fundamental driving force for economic development and may even become a basic right for everyone in the end.
It can be said that almost everyone will hope to have more AI to help them with their work.
To meet the needs of the world, we need both the inference computing power to run models and the training computing power to make models stronger.
Therefore, we are laying the foundation to significantly expand the scale of AI infrastructure construction.
If AI develops in the direction we expect, the future possibilities will be amazing:
Perhaps with just 10 gigawatts of computing power, AI can find a cure for cancer;
It's also possible that with the same computing power, AI can provide personalized tutoring for all students around the world.
If the computing power is insufficient, we have to make trade - offs among these goals - but who would like to make such a choice?
So, let's build it together.
Our vision is simple: to build a "factory" that can produce gigawatt - level new AI infrastructure every week.
This goal is extremely challenging and will take at least several years to reach this milestone. At the same time, innovation is required at every level of the technology stack - from chips, power systems, to facility construction and robotics.
But we are fully committed and believe it can be achieved.
In our view, this will be the coolest and most important infrastructure project ever.
What's particularly exciting is that most of this project will be built in the United States.
Currently, other countries are building chip factories and new energy production capacities much faster than the United States, and we hope to reverse this trend.
In the next few months, we will announce some plans and the partners we are working with.
Later this year, we will also talk about our financing plan.
Considering that increasing computing power is the direct key to increasing revenue, we also have some very interesting new ideas to share.
