Huawei Releases Latest 5G-A Technology: Using AI Models to Predict Communication Quality | The Frontline
As the enthusiasm for generative AI continues to heat up and the intelligent capabilities at the edge are enhanced, the communication network is also undergoing an upgrade from "connection" to "intelligence."
On June 19th, China Telecom and Huawei jointly held a new technology press conference titled "Intelligent Convergence for Large Uplink" during the 2025 MWC Shanghai (Mobile World Congress Shanghai). This technological achievement marks that the 5G-A network is one step closer to becoming the foundation for Mobile AI (AI mobile devices).
Different from the previous network requirements that focused on download speed, in the future, with the increasing rise of real-time interaction scenarios such as smart wearables, Internet of Vehicles, AI assistants, and robots, the requirements for data uplink capabilities will be significantly enhanced.
"Intelligent Convergence for Large Uplink" uses an AI model to predict channel quality in real-time and achieves five-dimensional coordinated scheduling in terms of time, frequency, modulation, space, and power through AI. It can intelligently select multiple frequency bands, decouple the system according to business requirements, and freely schedule the uplink.
This innovation enables the 5G-A network to have more accurate prediction capabilities, reduces latency by more than 30%, and improves the uplink rate by more than 15% and the edge experience by more than 15%.
Cao Ming, Vice President of Huawei and President of the Wireless Network Product Line, shared at the conference.
Cao Ming, Vice President of Huawei and President of the Wireless Network Product Line, showed in his speech at the conference the remarkable development of Mobile AI in the past year since its launch - the monthly active user number of AI applications increased from 150 million to 1.25 billion, the cumulative shipment volume of AI mobile phones increased from 5 million to 400 million, and the daily Token generation of AI has increased a thousand times from the level of tens of billions.
The technological innovation resulting from the cooperation between Huawei and China Telecom this time will realize its value in scenarios such as live streaming, intelligent transportation, and intelligent production.
Cao Ming said that in the future, China Telecom and Huawei will continue to unlock the potential of 5G-A and promote the integration of "AI + 5G-A."
At the 2025 MWC Shanghai, the Huawei booth also presented a number of innovative achievements in the integration of 5G-A and AI.
In terms of business innovation, Huawei jointly launched with China's three major operators the 5G-A experience management and AItoX (AI to Everything) commercial achievements, covering multiple scenarios such as households, Internet of Vehicles, and industrial production.
In the field of infrastructure, Huawei released the latest practice of AI-Centric Network, which supports the business in the intelligent era by building an intelligent computing power center.
Huawei also launched a brand-new AI UBB solution, which achieves end-to-end coverage from home broadband to the bearer network. Through built-in computing power and performance improvement, it supports the requirements of AI applications for extreme bandwidth and low latency.
