Frontier News | Michelin Primacy 5 Tires Make Global Debut, Reinventing New Benchmark for Safe Mobility with Technology
On March 27th, after seven years of development, Michelin officially launched its new-generation Primacy tire, the Primacy 5, at the Tulou, a World Cultural Heritage site in Zhangzhou, Fujian. With the theme of "Transcending Time, Safety Always", the event deeply integrated the guarding spirit of the centuries-old Tulou with tire technology, opening a new chapter in safe travel. Through product presentations, on-site tests, and other activities, the event provided an immersive experience of safety for the attendees, highlighting Michelin's persistent pursuit of technological innovation and user safety.

The choice of the Fujian Tulou as the venue for the launch was significant. This building, which has withstood the test of centuries, symbolizes protection and inheritance, aligning perfectly with Michelin's concept of "Safety Always". Yves Chapot, President and CEO of Michelin Greater China and Mongolia, said in his speech, "The Primacy 5 is the result of seven years of research and development by Michelin. We are committed to providing consumers with a safer travel experience throughout the entire lifecycle of the tire. In the future, Michelin will continue to drive the industry forward through innovation and ensure the safety of every journey."
Enhanced "Full-Cycle Safety", Breaking Through the Industry's Wear Performance Degradation

According to Michelin engineers, compared with its predecessor, the Primacy 5 has been comprehensively upgraded in three major aspects: rubber compound formula, tread pattern design, and tire carcass structure. With "full-cycle safety" at its core, it has overcome the industry problem of wear performance degradation. Even more impressively, to address the increased braking distance on wet roads, the Primacy 5 can still achieve an average of 6 meters shorter wet braking distance than competing products after 50,000 kilometers of driving, effectively ensuring safety in rainy conditions.
In terms of the rubber compound, the Primacy 5 uses the latest Evertread 3.0 polymer functional groups and the independently developed Active+ rubber. The dynamic flexible structure enhances grip, while improving the toughness of the rubber, reducing surface peeling, and extending the service life. In addition, in terms of drainage performance, which is crucial for tire use, it inherits the classic Evergrip U-shaped groove design, with a 22% increase in drainage space compared to the previous generation. Even after tire wear, it can still drain water efficiently, reducing the risk of skidding on rainy days. It is worth mentioning that in terms of structure, the Primacy 5 introduces Maxtouch pressure equalization technology, which can evenly distribute pressure to reduce irregular wear during driving.
At the launch event, according to the tests conducted by CATARC, the Primacy 5 has a 20,000-kilometer longer wear life than competing products, and its wet braking distance is still 6 meters shorter than competing products after 50,000 kilometers of driving. This 6-meter difference in critical moments can effectively prevent accidents. These innovative technologies not only fulfill the promise of "Safety Always, from New to Old" but also redefine the safety standards for the entire lifecycle of tires, providing consumers with long-lasting and reliable safety guarantees.
Quiet and Comfortable, Making Every Safe Journey an Enjoyable One
The Michelin Primacy 5 has been comprehensively upgraded in terms of quietness compared to its predecessor.
In terms of noise reduction performance, it continues the family's noise reduction gene and innovatively breaks through with the third-generation noise reduction rib technology. By increasing the stiffness of the central tread pattern, reducing the micro-vibration of the tread blocks, and optimizing the EvenPeak tread pattern arrangement, it suppresses the generation of sharp noise. According to CATARC tests, it leads the industry in indicators such as vibration and noise on flat roads, creating a "library-level" quiet space for urban commuting and high-speed driving.
The safety of the product has been endorsed by international authorities. The Primacy 5 won the "Tire of the Year" award at the "2025 International Tire Technology Innovation and Excellence Awards" for its safety and energy efficiency advantages. This award is jointly judged by experts from around the world and the International Tire Technology magazine, highlighting Michelin's leading position in technology.
It is also worth mentioning that the brand continues to implement its sustainable development strategy. The Primacy 5 extends its service life through material innovation, reduces resource consumption, and deeply integrates safety, comfort, and environmental protection. As Yves Chapot, President of Michelin Greater China, said, "In the future, we will be driven by technology to build a safe, quiet, and sustainable travel ecosystem." From noise reduction technology to industry honors, from performance breakthroughs to environmental commitments, the Primacy 5 redefines the value benchmark for high-end tires.
As a French tire manufacturer with a 136-year history, the launch of the Primacy 5 not only showcases Michelin's technological strength but also further upgrades its commitment to user safety. In today's era when the automotive industry is moving towards electrification and intelligence, Michelin hopes to write a future chapter of safe travel with technology as its pen.
