Dyson launched the "Pet Loving Home" program, released a white paper on pet cleaning, and held an adoption event.

[March 22, 2025, Shanghai, China] As of 2024, the number of dogs and cats in urban areas of China has exceeded 120 million. As furry companions become an indispensable part of more and more families, how to safeguard this furry companionship has become a new challenge for many pet owners. As a technology company dedicated to improving the home environment for global consumers, Dyson recently officially launched the "Dyson Pet-Friendly Home" program, aiming to make homes the first pet-friendly space. This time, Dyson, in collaboration with China Home Appliance Network, the College of Veterinary Medicine of Nanjing Agricultural University, and China National Household Appliance Quality Supervision and Testing Center (Beijing) Certification Co., Ltd., released the "White Paper on Healthy Cleaning Appliances for Pet-Owning Families in China" (hereinafter referred to as the "White Paper"), which systematically analyzes the health challenges of cohabitation between humans and pets and provides scientific and feasible solutions. At the same time, on March 22, in cooperation with Shanghai Adoption Day, Dyson held the "Pet Adoption Day for the Pet-Friendly Home" at Shanghai Qibao Lingzhan Plaza, advocating scientific pet-keeping while helping stray animals find new homes and assisting pet owners in creating a healthy and comfortable living environment for both humans and pets.

At the event site, Lu Mingmin, an associate professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine of Nanjing Agricultural University, introduced the research background and methods of the White Paper and shared insights on the current needs and challenges of pet-owning families in cohabitation between humans and pets. Dr. Lin Xiujia, the founder of AVC Anjia Pet Hospital and a judge of the Nutrition Specialty Committee of the Chinese Veterinary Association, also interpreted the common cleaning and health problems faced by pet-owning families, such as pet hair, human-pet allergies, and odors, mentioned in the White Paper and provided professional advice on pet care and cohabitation between humans and pets. Meanwhile, dozens of small animals waiting to be adopted from Shanghai Adoption Day also came to the site, looking forward to finding their healthy and happy new homes.

Decode the White Paper on Pet-Keeping and Identify the Core Pain Points of Pet-Owning Families

The White Paper conducts research from three aspects: the home cleaning habits of pet owners, health hazards, and scientific solutions. It deeply analyzes the pain points and needs of Chinese pet-owning families in creating a healthy living environment for both humans and pets and systematically sorts out the health management challenges brought about by the interaction among humans, pets, and the home space, including common difficulties such as pet hair, allergen spread, and odor generation.

The White Paper points out that shed pet hair is the most representative challenge for pet-owning families. Floors, furniture surfaces, clothes, and places where pets move, such as pet beds and cat trees, are all "hotspots" for pet hair. It is worth noting that compared with the hair itself, the real health hazards often lie in the "invisible" places - uncleaned pet hair is not only a carrier of allergens but may also absorb dust, breed bacteria and fungi, and even become a breeding ground for flea eggs, threatening both human health and the health and psychological state of pets themselves.

Moreover, since pets and their owners are exposed to the same pathogens and health risks, maintaining a clean and hygienic home environment is crucial for safeguarding the common health of humans and pets. The White Paper shows that common human allergens such as dust mites and pollen may also trigger allergic reactions in pets; indoor air pollutants such as VOCs including formaldehyde, tobacco smoke, and PM2.5 may be more harmful to pets, especially cats that stay indoors for a long time. At the same time, since the breathing rate of dogs and cats is 2 - 3 times that of humans, even low-dose pollutants may affect the health of cats and dogs due to the accumulation of inhalation volume.

Facing these challenges, more and more pet owners have adopted "active management." The survey in the White Paper shows that 57.44% of the surveyed pet owners comb their furry companions to reduce shedding, and nearly half consider combing as an important part of maintaining pet health. The upgrade of cleaning habits is also reflected in the purchase of cleaning equipment - more than 40% of the surveyed pet owners have purchased anti-mite products after getting a pet, and about one-third have bought a vacuum cleaner to create a cleaner and healthier home environment. However, real problems still exist. One in every five pet owners is dissatisfied with the hair cleaning effect of existing cleaning appliances. In particular, narrow corners, the bottoms of sofas, and gaps between furniture are generally considered the most difficult areas to clean, becoming a problem threatening the health of cohabitation between humans and pets.

Lu Mingmin, an associate professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine of Nanjing Agricultural University, said, "The 'visible' and 'invisible' pollutants in the indoor environment not only affect human health but also the health of furry companions. From the physiological characteristics of pets to the blind spots in daily cleaning, they may pose long-term health hazards to both humans and pets. The release of this White Paper aims to help pet owners break through their previous cognitive blind spots and provide ideas for creating a healthier and safer living space for both humans and pets. We hope that these results can be translated into the daily practices of every pet-owning family, so that the concept of scientific pet-keeping can bring practical value to pet-owning families."

Technology Empowers Care for Humans and Pets, Easily Achieve the Ideal "Pet-Friendly Home"

To translate the insights of the White Paper into practical solutions, Dr. Lin Xiujia, a professional veterinarian, shared the solutions to problems such as hair, allergies, and odors in the White Paper at the event site. She said that the home environment cleaning of pet-owning families should not stop at the surface: tiny allergens such as dander, pollen, dust mites, and mold attached to pet hair will fall on the floor, furniture surfaces, corners, and gaps, and even float in the air, affecting the health of family members and being the main cause of allergic reactions in pets; the odors generated by pets' daily activities may come from uncleaned excrement or inadequate environmental disinfection. Therefore, scientifically caring for pet hair and efficiently cleaning and purifying the home environment are the keys to creating a healthy living space for both humans and pets.

This coincides with Dyson's long-term research on pet hair and the allergens it carries by its microbiology team, adding more scientific evidence to Dyson's targeted cleaning solutions. In response to the urgent needs of pet-owning families for environmental cleaning and air purification, Dyson has launched targeted solutions covering floor cleaning and air purification. A product experience area was specially set up at the event site, where pet owners personally experienced the clean and comfortable home experience brought by product combinations such as Dyson V12 and V15 vacuum cleaners and the BP04 air purifier to the "Pet-Friendly Home."

Among them, both the Dyson V12 and V15 vacuum cleaners are equipped with strong suction and a whole-machine HEPA filtration system, which can firmly lock in 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, effectively avoiding secondary pollution. The optical detection suction head they are equipped with can make hidden dust and hair nowhere to hide, and the anti-tangle spiral suction head can efficiently suck up hair and achieve a mite removal rate of up to 99.9% in the powerful mode. Moreover, the ultra-narrow gap corner suction head can reach deep into narrow gaps and corners, achieving all-round and dead-angle-free cleaning, making cleaning in pet-owning families easier and more thorough. For medium and long-haired pets, Dyson's specially customized pet hair cleaning kit can achieve one-step hair combing and suction. With its high-efficiency cleaning performance, the Dyson V12 and V15 vacuum cleaners have won the first "Infant and Pet-Friendly Floor Cleaning Appliance" certificate awarded by China National Household Appliance Quality Supervision and Testing Center (Beijing) Certification Co., Ltd.
