Nowadays, this idea has been realized in AI glasses.

As a key track that technology giants and hardware companies are competing for, in the past year, smart wearable products represented by AI glasses have attracted much market attention and experienced a great outbreak on the product side. As of May 2024, WellsennXR predicts that Ray-Ban Meta has sold nearly 2 million pairs; Baidu has released the first Xiaodu AI glasses with a Chinese large model, which is expected to be listed in the first half of this year; Xiaomi has also collaborated with GoerTek and will release AI glasses in the second quarter of 2025...

For the general consumers, the development of smart glasses products to date is not only a vision aid tool but also gradually evolving into a fashion accessory. As one of the AI carriers, it has the characteristics of portability and daily use, innovative interaction methods, and multi-functional integration.

Common AI glasses can be roughly divided into two categories: The first is based on AI native, integrating AI technology into the design from the beginning and taking it as the core function, usually with more powerful computing capabilities, such as Xiaodu AI glasses; The second is to add AI modules and functions to traditional glasses, such as myopia glasses, sunglasses, etc., taking Ray-Ban Meta as an example.

In terms of price, most of the current products are mainly concentrated in the range of 2,000 - 4,000 yuan, and there are also brands that focus on the high-end line and integrate more AR technologies with a price of more than 4,000 yuan.

Recently, the smart hardware brand Shargeek Technology released its first AI glasses, Shargeek A1. Its product functions focus on AI enhanced memory, integrating sports cameras, smart speakers, voice recorders, etc. The appearance is benchmarked against Ray-Ban Meta, but the price is only half of it. For the first time, the price of AI glasses has dropped to a three-digit number. The co-creation version is only sold for 999 yuan, and it also comes with several paid benefits and can get cash coupons by checking in.

This AI glasses will also be the first mass-produced product of Chinese AI glasses. According to official data, all 50,000 devices of the Shargeek A1 co-creation version were sold out on the day of pre-sale, and the production is planned to be arranged before the Spring Festival. The sunglasses and transparent versions of its co-creation version will be listed on Shargeek's official sales channels as soon as after the Spring Festival.

Hardcore understands that Shargeek expects to sell 500,000 units in the first year to achieve break-even. Currently, there are already batch orders, completing most of the sales in 2025.

The year 2025 has a special significance for the AI glasses industry, and the competition is about to break out. And as a company that was previously known for power banks, Shargeek's 999-yuan AI glasses product has achieved a good start, indicating that the upcoming price war will be faster and more fierce than imagined. 

The self-developed world's first AI memory system

Shargeek's products focus on audio and video recording, and are obviously targeted at ordinary young people rather than geek users, so they appear to have a low threshold and be lightweight.

For example, the representative application scenarios of this pair of glasses from Shargeek are shooting family gatherings, traveling, listening to concerts and watching dramas, shooting family members, pets or recording oneself.

Different from the previously common all-round AI large model applications, Zhang Bo frankly said that Shargeek does not want to be a full-time and all-round assistant. "At this stage, our focus is on AI instructive memory, that is, it remembers what we ask it to remember. Although it cannot be as intelligent as a human, what is stronger than a human is that it records all the time and has an unforgettable ability, which is our core key point."

Therefore, the focus of this product from Shargeek is very prominent.

First, in terms of basic functions, photography is the area where Shargeek focuses its efforts. The Shargeek A1 is almost no different from the common glasses in product appearance, but it is equipped with a Sony flagship 16-megapixel camera inside. It can accurately simulate the human eye perspective through a 123° ultra-wide-angle, with low power consumption and video stabilization function, and can achieve a 16-megapixel full-resolution photo quality, supporting users' various daily shooting needs.

In terms of sound effect functions, in order to restore the full-frequency Hi-Fi-level music, the Shargeek A1 adopts a super-linear Hi-Fi speaker with the same technology as the iPhone Taptic Engine, with more realistic sound quality performance. At the same time, it also supports dual DSP independent amplification, which can provide high-fidelity stereo sound quality and achieve better audio playback effects than similar products.

In the core AI software part, Shargeek's system Loomo OS (Chinese name: Record Eye) is mainly characterized by "memory", which can efficiently record the user's multi-modal data such as audio recordings, text and images, and can be quickly stored and synchronized across multiple devices.

At the same time, based on the past accumulation in the field of charging and energy storage, Shargeek has launched an extended-range endurance solution specifically for AI glasses - the Extended Range Ring. The Extended Range Ring uses a 6500mAh large-capacity battery. When hung around the neck, it is equivalent to a mobile power bank. While maintaining the long endurance of AI glasses, it also supports reverse charging to hardware products such as mobile phones.

Overall, Shargeek is not a product that competes in configuration. It meets the basic needs of ordinary people and smartly highlights the "soft" functions. This strategy is traceable. When smartphones began to gain popularity 10 years ago, OPPO and vivo did not compete with Xiaomi and Huawei in terms of price and configuration, but focused on photography, appearance, and audio and video, quickly winning a large number of female users and eventually ranking among the top in the smartphone industry.

From the actual market performance, as an important branch of wearable smart devices, the industry's exploration of AI glasses products and technologies has lasted for many years. However, the user mindset cultivation process of this innovative product is relatively slow, and it still faces many challenges in terms of lightweight, cost, all-weather performance and after-sales, which directly affect users' expectations of the AI experience.

In terms of appearance and weight, Shargeek has collaborated with LOHO glasses for production this time. The first batch released a black frame style with resin material, weighing about 50 grams. Its innovation is to adopt a battery rear-mounted design, placing 2 batteries in the temple part to relieve the pressure on the bridge of the nose; This design can control the user's perceived weight to about 30 grams, which is close to the weight of ordinary glasses on the market (about 15 - 30 grams).

In addition to the front-end design, the two sides also have close cooperation in the delivery link. Among them, LOHO has more than 1,000 brand-owned stores in more than 150 cities across the country. Based on the channel accumulation in the past years, it integrates online traffic, achieves transactions, and focuses on offline traffic reception and after-sales service.

The advantage of this omni-channel model is that users can use the traditional glasses channel to achieve a vertical integration service that integrates design, production, optometry and glasses fitting as a whole, and directly experience AI glasses offline, effectively reducing the cost of market education for AI glasses.

However, since the Shargeek A1 is still in the first stage of mass production, Zhang Bo said that at this stage, its SKU is relatively limited and it is temporarily unable to provide so many lenses with different degrees. It is recommended that myopia users go offline for experience and matching. In addition, in terms of styles, Shargeek expects to launch dozens of other styles of AI glasses next year.

In terms of pricing, the retail price of the Shargeek A1 is 1,499 yuan, and the price of the co-creation version is 999 yuan. Among them, the annual subscription price of the two application functions, AI Shargeek and AI Cloud Disk, is 299 yuan, and the first year is free. The first batch of 50,000 co-creation versions were sold out on the first day of the initial launch. Zhang Bo revealed that the Shargeek A1 currently has a large number of orders and has completed most of this year's OKR.

According to the Bezos Smart Glasses Report, it is expected that by 2029, the smart glasses market size will reach 106.778 billion yuan, with a compound annual growth rate of up to 18.56%. As a new category, the overall market size of AI glasses is still in a rapid germination stage.

Zhang Bo also said frankly, "We firmly believe that this is the iPhone moment. In the promotion and application of smart glasses, (Shargeek) as the forerunner will do better and better." Currently, the core functions of the Shargeek A1, such as glasses hardware, smart assistant, cloud disk service, and AI flash memo, have become more complete, but there are still challenges in related software and mass production. In the future, services such as real-time translation, live streaming, smart memory, and voice writing may be provided through online upgrades.

Since the financing was launched in August 2024, Shargeek Technology has completed over 100 million yuan in financing in a single month. Some industry insiders pointed out that for some players in different markets who have officially announced their entry into the "Hundred Glasses War" but have not seen the product form, the Shargeek A1 is released and sold immediately. On the one hand, it helps to quickly seize the user's mindset and then condense into a market scale advantage; at the same time, its products focus on low prices and high performance, and with the entry into the LOHO offline channel, it is expected to accelerate the transition of AI glasses from a niche circle to the mass market.

However, after the giants enter the game, the price of AI glasses will continue to be lowered. How far a medium-sized company like Shargeek can go is still unknown. After all, the consumer electronics industry has had many glorious moments, and there are also many entrepreneurial companies with ideals. However, after rounds of bloody reshuffles, they only remain in a piece of the past and a sigh.
