On October 28, Thunderbird Innovation held the autumn new product launch event of the Thunderbird Air 3 series. At the event, Thunderbird Innovation launched the Thunderbird Air 3 and the Thunderbird Air 2 Third Anniversary Championship Edition, with the prices set at 1,699 yuan and 1,399 yuan respectively, reducing the price of the detachable AR glasses to less than 2,000 yuan for the first time.
At the launch event, Li Hongwei, the founder and CEO of Thunderbird Innovation, shared a set of user research data: 91% of detachable AR glasses users mainly use the glasses for watching movies and playing games. He stated that the vast majority of users hope to use AR glasses to experience immersive entertainment rather than complex multitasking applications.
Therefore, the Air 3 is defined as a display terminal that can be put in a pocket and worn on the face - Thunderbird Innovation calls it a "Pocket TV".
Air 3
Air 3 focuses on enhancing the user's movie-watching and gaming experience. It is reported that it is equipped with the new Peacock Optical Engine jointly developed by Thunderbird Innovation and TCL.
In terms of the optical path, Air 3 achieves multi-layer high-precision AR coating to reduce the interference of redundant stray light. By redesigning the lens of the semi-reflective mirror, the Eyebox area of Air 3 reaches 14mm * 7mm. With a larger Eyebox area, Air 3 can better adapt to different face shapes, and at the same time, it has overcome the problem of edge clarity that users often mentioned before. By reducing the degree of distortion, the clarity of the edge of the picture has been improved by 35%.
In terms of the screen, Air 3 uses the fifth-generation Micro-OLED jointly launched by Thunderbird Innovation and SEEYA. This generation of screen is equipped with Tandem OLED technology, with a display color reaching 145% sRGB color gamut coverage and 98% DCI P3 color gamut coverage. The eye-entry brightness reaches 650 nits, and the contrast ratio is increased to 200,000:1. In the optical laboratory jointly established with TCL, Thunderbird calibrates the color accuracy of this generation of screens. The Delta E of each factory-produced Air3 is less than 2, achieving a professional-level color performance.
In addition, Air 3 fully supports 3840Hz PWM dimming. Combined with the hardware anti-blue light technology, it can relieve eye fatigue. With the support of these two technologies, Air 3 has passed the anti-blue light and anti-fatigue certifications of TÜV SÜD.
In terms of sound, Li Hongwei said that the common version solutions chosen by most manufacturers on the market are far from achieving the sound effect that Thunderbird desires. The Air 3 uses a four-unit back-to-back speaker system that Thunderbird Innovation has spent two years developing independently and is specially designed for eyewear devices.
This speaker system uses a diaphragm with an area twice that of the common version speaker and uses a special composite membrane polymer material. The sound pressure level reaches 2.5 times the industry average. As a result, Air 3 has obtained the 5-star Golden Ear Certification from CGEC.
Thunderbird Innovation also released the Thunderbird Air 2 Third Anniversary Championship Edition. Li Hongwei said that he hopes this product can become "the first AR glasses for young people", allowing everyone to enjoy the large-screen visual fun brought by AR anytime, anywhere.
Public information shows that Thunderbird Innovation is a domestic consumer-level AR company with independent research and development capabilities in XR optics and the entire machine. It has completed over 500 million yuan in financing in the past half year.
