With the vigorous development of industries such as big data, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, and large models, the demand for efficient, secure, and sustainable computing resources is increasing daily. Computing power has become the oil and electricity of the digital economy era. How to meet this growing demand has become an important issue of common concern to the entire society.

On October 22, the "Establishment Conference of the Computing Power Network Professional Committee of the China Information Association and the 2024 Computing Power Network Development Conference," guided by the Haidian District Government of Beijing, and jointly hosted by the China Information Association and Peng Cheng Laboratory, was successfully held at the Exhibition Center of the Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone.

At the conference, the Computing Power Network Professional Committee of the China Information Association was officially announced to be established. Wang Jinping, the president of the China Information Association, read out the establishment notice of the professional committee and the list of the first batch of members. 94 institutions, including the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance (Zhongguancun Audio-visual Industry Technology Alliance), the National High-Performance Computer Engineering Technology Research Center, the Computer Network Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Zhejiang Lab, the 2035 Laboratory, and the Beijing Institute of Artificial Intelligence, were selected;

It is reported that the association aims to promote the construction of the national integrated computing power network and jointly build the computing power application industry ecosystem by gathering industry resources and promoting diversified technological innovation.

"Both the computing power network and the artificial intelligence based on computing power play an irreplaceable and crucial role in serving Chinese-style modernization, supporting new-quality productive forces, and enabling a digital powerful country. As a national-scale industry association in the field of informatization in China, the China Information Association will also give full play to the advantages of the association as an industry organization and its role as a bridge and link, and actively gather industry forces." Wang Jinping said at the conference.

Computing power refers to the ability of computer equipment or computing/data centers to process information. In recent years, the rapid development of the digital economy has led to an explosive growth in global computing power demand, while the original decentralized data centers are difficult to meet the massive high-performance computing needs in emerging fields.

In this context, the computing power network emerges as the times require. The computing power network has the characteristics of being able to allocate and flexibly schedule computing, storage, and network resources on demand between the cloud, the edge, and the end. It can interconnect large-scale heterogeneous computing power resources such as general computing, intelligent computing, and supercomputing, as well as data resources across the country, to achieve efficient scheduling and flexible supply of resources. Therefore, it has become an important trend in the development of computing power.

This year's government work report clearly states that digital infrastructure should be constructed in a moderately advanced manner, the national integrated computing power system should be accelerated, and the computing power industry ecosystem should be cultivated. Accelerating the layout of the computing power network construction has become an inevitable choice to open up the main artery of digital infrastructure and consolidate the foundation of building a digital China.

Currently, the development of the domestic integrated computing power network faces many obstacles.

In an interview with 36Kr, Wang Jinping said that the development obstacles of the integrated computing power network in China mainly include two aspects. One is the non-uniform standards of interfaces and protocols for computing power resources, and the other is the speed and efficiency of long-distance transmission. To solve these problems, it is necessary for multiple parties to participate in breaking the "computing power island."

Therefore, the construction of the national integrated computing power network is a systematic project that requires the participation and collaborative promotion of multiple parties. It not only requires the government to provide guidance and support at the policy level but also requires the joint efforts of various links in the industrial chain, such as infrastructure providers, chip manufacturers, and data center operators.

The establishment of the Computing Power Network Professional Committee of the China Information Association is an important milestone in the construction of the computing power network in China. It uses the power of the association to widely gather and link the resources and participants of the construction of the computing power network in China, and actively serves the high-quality development of the computing power network industry, which is expected to further promote the construction of the integrated computing power network in China.

Mei Jianping, the new director of the Computing Power Network Professional Committee, said that in the future, the Computing Power Network Professional Committee will carry out active and effective work in aspects such as the scenario application, industry standards, maturity evaluation, international cooperation, and green computing power development of the computing power network, and contribute to the development of the computing power network.
