In the new energy era, how can enterprises seize the opportunities of energy transition?

The transformation challenges of new energy vehicles, the reshaping of the industrial chain, and small and medium-sized enterprises need to actively adapt.

Nowadays, we are witnessing the beginning of a new round of energy transformation. Taking the new energy vehicles, which have attracted much attention in the new energy field, as an example, according to the data of the Passenger Car Association, in 2024, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in the Chinese market (monthly) exceeded 50% for the first time, and new energy vehicles have occupied half of the automotive market.

In the past year, a new round of price wars in the new energy vehicle industry has gradually spread to the entire automotive market and significantly intensified industry competition. However, an "abnormal" phenomenon is that, at present, when the growth of new power vehicle companies is lower than expected, most upstream and downstream enterprises of the new energy sector can still maintain a steady growth and profitability.

According to the report of Galaxy Securities, in the first three quarters of 2024, among the domestic A-share listed companies, the revenue and profit of the passenger vehicle sector (main engine factory) increased by +6% / -5% compared with the same period last year, while the revenue and profit growth of the parts sector were +6% / +13% respectively. The profit situation of listed parts enterprises even exceeds that of the main engine factory.

In the new energy era, the electrification and intelligence of automobiles have enabled a batch of new suppliers to rise strongly. Batteries and chips have become increasingly important in automobiles, and even reversed the positions between the main engine factory and suppliers.

The same change has also occurred in the automotive aftermarket. Pure electric vehicles do not require engine and gearbox maintenance, and the automotive aftermarket with maintenance as the core seems to have shrunk. But in fact, services such as battery charging, maintenance, and recycling are more suitable for emerging enterprises to join than the refueling services in the era of fuel vehicles. The personalized demands and subscription services brought by electrification and intelligence also have huge imagination space.

Looking at the entire new energy market, the energy transformation is reshaping not only the automotive industry. In the past two years, affected by multiple factors such as the international situation and technological iteration, energy storage has become another emerging explosive market after new energy vehicles. According to the data of the National Energy Administration, in 2023, the new installed capacity of energy storage in China was 22.6 million kilowatts / 48.7 million kilowatt-hours, an increase of more than 260% compared with the end of 2022. In Europe and other regions, the growth rate of the energy storage market is even more terrifying.

The rapid growth of the energy storage market has also nourished the photovoltaic industry. And the popularity of new energy vehicles has rejuvenated the concept of the integration of photovoltaic energy storage and charging - the combination of photovoltaic energy storage power stations and new energy vehicle charging stations has become an important part of the next-generation power grid.

It is not difficult to see that the previously independent new energy industries are now coalescing into a tight chain and forming a vibrant ecological network. Facing the general trend of the new energy transformation, only by actively embracing it can enterprises ride the waves and move forward steadily in the tide. Under the backdrop of the opportunities and challenges brought by the new energy transformation, where should the industry go?

In order to answer this question, the All-China Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Parts and Accessories will establish the "New Energy Vehicle (Industry) Service Professional Committee" at this year's "Annual Conference of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce Automobile and Motorcycle Parts and Accessories Chamber of Commerce", to provide transformation empowerment for national automobile and motorcycle parts and new energy-related enterprises.

The All-China Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Parts and Accessories was established in 2002 and is a chamber of commerce organization directly under the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China. Currently, the chamber of commerce has more than 200 direct members and more than 20,000 grassroots members, and has established a product supply network covering mainstream automotive parts manufacturers, automotive supplies manufacturers, automotive maintenance equipment manufacturers and other manufacturers, helping various units to achieve production and sales, and production and research docking.

In the new energy field, the chamber of commerce has built a new energy industry service platform and is committed to building an ecological system for the new energy industry. Through various activities such as seminars and forums, it promotes the collaborative development of all links in the industry.

This conference will be held at the Ruili Hotel in Shanghai Auto City from November 30 to December 1, 2024. The conference plans to invite leaders of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, heads of relevant departments and offices of relevant ministries and commissions, local governments, scientific research institutions and other relevant department leaders to participate, to interpret the relevant policy directions of the industry and help enterprises grasp the pulse of the industry.

At the same time, this conference will focus on industry hotspots, and conduct in-depth discussions around core issues such as automotive market trends, the transformation and upgrading of the automotive parts industry, the co-construction and win-win situation of the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, and the export of auto parts, especially the transformation and exploration of related enterprises in the new energy era. It is hoped that more upstream and downstream practitioners of the new energy can embrace the new energy trend and contribute to the global green travel transformation.
