Proving that it truly heeds user advice, OpenAI has doubled the quota for its Pro plan.
ZheDongXi reports on October 30 that in the early morning, Tibo, head of OpenAI Codex and ChatGPT, announced that the subscription usage quotas for Pro 100, 200, 500 and Business Premium of Codex and ChatGPT Work have been doubled.
Tibo stated that OpenAI has received friendly feedback from Pro 200 subscribers and decided to withdraw the quota reduction plan originally scheduled to be implemented on October 30.
Tibo also made a meme in the comment section, saying that OpenAI has transformed from a reset-focused company to a Token-focused company, giving the impression that quotas are fully guaranteed, though it is unclear if this implies a reduction in reset frequency.
According to the previous arrangement, the Codex and ChatGPT Work usage quota for existing Pro 200 users was supposed to drop from 20 times the original Plus plan quota to 10 times. After this adjustment, existing users will continue to retain the original 20x quota.
In addition to Pro subscriptions, OpenAI also announced that the usage quota for Business Premium has been doubled. At the same time, additional usage quotas for Dots will continue to be provided, and Dots usage is still calculated separately from the default subscription quota.
In terms of specific changes, the usage quotas for Pro 100 and Pro 500 will be directly doubled. According to the previously announced quota multiples, Pro 100 is increased from 5 times to 10 times, and Pro 500 is increased from 25 times to 50 times.
Pro 200 adopts a different adjustment method: existing users who previously enjoyed higher quotas will continue to retain the 20x quota, while new subscribers who were originally eligible for the 10x quota will receive double the quota starting from today, eventually reaching the same level as existing users.
This adjustment is related to OpenAI's previous Pro plan revision.
On September 29, OpenAI launched the $500 per month Pro 500 plan, positioning it as the tier with the highest usage quota in the Pro series, and exclusively providing access to the Astra Ultrafast model.
At the same time, OpenAI reopened subscriptions to the Pro 200 plan, but the quota applicable to new subscribers is 10 times, which is lower than the 20x quota standard for existing users before.
According to the policy previously announced by OpenAI, for eligible existing users, OpenAI set a one-month transition period, allowing them to temporarily retain the 20x quota, and planned to reduce their quota to 10 times starting from October 30.
This doubling of quotas is essentially a marketing strategy of "halving first and then doubling": when launching new subscription tiers, the quota is halved first, and then the original quota is maintained through doubling.
It is worth noting that this quota adjustment does not benefit Plus subscribers.
While the quotas for all tiers in the Pro series have been increased, the Codex and Work usage quotas for Plus users have not increased accordingly. Some Plus users have also expressed dissatisfaction on social platforms, arguing that OpenAI is putting more resources and attention on high-priced subscribers.
From the perspective of plan design, OpenAI is further widening the gap in usage quotas between different paid tiers. For users who frequently use Codex for programming development and need to run Agent tasks for a long time, the Pro plan can provide more usage space.
Finally, attached is a 28-day Tibo plan update calendar made by a netizen, looking forward to what surprises the last three days will bring.
