When AI moves from being a software feature into real homes, lighting is perhaps the first place where users "see" the changes.

At the just-concluded IFA 2026, AI was almost the universal keyword across all exhibition booths. From ingredient-identifying refrigerators to household robots with task planning capabilities, "integration of home appliances and Agents" and "robots entering homes" have become the two main themes of this exhibition.

Beneath the bustle, a consensus is taking shape across the industry: The competition for AI entering households has shifted from "whether AI is available" to "whether AI can truly transform user experience". The measurement standard is plain and simple: whether users can genuinely perceive changes in their daily lives.

In this latest boom, lighting is a scenario that is easily overlooked but allows users to directly "see" AI. Govee, the whole-home smart lighting brand under Zhiyan Technology, offers products covering more than 80 countries and regions worldwide, and has been exploring the integration of AI and lighting since 2023. The question it attempts to answer is: can lighting evolve from being "set by people" to "understanding people"?

AI Entering Homes: Lighting is an Underrated Entry Point

Lighting is rarely placed at the center of AI narratives, but it may be one of the shortest paths for AI to enter households.

First of all, lighting is one of the most frequently used devices in the home, running through almost the entire day. Secondly, changes in lighting are immediately visible, so users can judge at a glance whether AI performs well or not. Furthermore, lighting naturally carries emotional connotations: different moments such as focusing, relaxing, gathering, and watching movies require different types of light. Finally, a family often has dozens of light sources, and lighting is inherently a multi-device scenario, which is exactly where AI's collaborative capabilities can give full play to their advantages.

However, over the past decade, smart lighting has also fallen into a paradox: with more and more functions and richer lighting effects, the threshold for users to adjust the "lighting they want" has become increasingly high. Color temperature, saturation, dynamic modes, scene linkage... the complicated settings have left many users ultimately only using the basic switch and dimming functions.

A Govee representative said during IFA: "Smart lighting has changed the way people illuminate their homes, but obtaining a proper lighting experience still requires complex settings. As homes become more interconnected and personalized, people expect their surroundings to better understand their daily habits, emotions and needs. AI represents the next evolution of lighting, making lighting more adaptive and responsive."

This is also the direction the industry is moving towards. Leading brands in the lighting industry are accelerating their layout of AI. For example, Philips Hue launched an AI function that allows users to set lighting automations with natural language at IFA 2026.

The focus of competition in the smart lighting industry is shifting from hardware parameters to "understanding users". This requires two prerequisites: solid underlying lighting technology, and natural AI interaction. Govee has long-term accumulation in both of these areas.

The Technical Content of "Lighting Fixtures" is Highly Underrated

In the impression of many people, lighting fixtures are a category with low technical barriers. But to make the AI-generated lighting effect "what you see is what you get", the problem becomes far more complicated: AI can understand that users want a "seaside sunset", but whether this "sunset" can be accurately and delicately presented in the space depends on the underlying perception, control and color capabilities.

In other words, AI is responsible for "understanding", while the underlying lighting technology is responsible for "accurate expression". Govee's smart lighting technology system can be divided into three layers.

The first layer is the cognitive decision-making layer. The CogniGlow™ AI algorithm is the "brain" of Govee's smart lighting system. Through self-developed multi-chip collaborative architecture and AI algorithm, it parses image content and environmental information at the millisecond level, and generates lighting instructions in real time. When playing games or watching movies, the lighting can change synchronously with the rhythm, color and emotion of the picture, evolving from executing preset effects to understanding content in real time.

The second layer is the spatial collaboration layer. The DreamView smart light domain system connects devices such as light strips, floor lamps, and table lamps wirelessly into a unified lighting matrix through self-developed lighting algorithms, extending the colors of the screen to the entire room. This is also the technical premise for Govee to promote AI multi-device management in the future.

The third layer is the lighting effect presentation layer. Govee's self-developed RGBIC segmented flowing color technology allows multiple areas of a single light strip to independently show colors through independent control chips, presenting multiple colors and dynamic gradients at the same time. Compared with traditional monochrome or overall color changing solutions, it greatly improves color expressiveness and spatial hierarchy, and is the foundation of personalized lighting effects.

On this basis, the self-developed LuminBlend+ color management system further improves color reproduction accuracy and transition smoothness, covering both indoor and outdoor product lines.

Up to now, Govee has applied for more than 2,100 patents in total. These unseen underlying efforts form the foundation for the implementation of AI Lighting.

Three Years, Four Leaps of AI Lighting

For Govee, AI is not a new feature added in recent years to follow industry trends. As early as 2023, Govee began to explore the integration of AI and lighting, and launched the AI Lighting Bot, with only one core goal: to lower the threshold for creating personalized lighting.

The first leap is from parameters to natural language. With AI Lighting Bot 2.0, users no longer need to understand professional parameters such as color temperature and saturation. They only need to describe the desired atmosphere, emotion or scene through text, voice or even a picture, and AI can generate the corresponding lighting effect.

The second leap is from single generation to multi-turn dialogue (launched at CES 2026). According to Govee, it is the first smart lighting brand to introduce multi-turn dialogue into AI lighting. Common AI lighting effect generation in the industry is mostly "one instruction, one generation", and users have to start all over again if they are not satisfied. In Govee's solution, users can continuously describe, modify and improve their needs just like chatting — "a little warmer", "slower rhythm", "add a little purple". AI gradually understands the effect that users really want through rounds of dialogue.

This seems to be only a change in the interaction method, but behind it is a transformation of logic: lighting is no longer a one-time output result, but a work polished jointly by users and AI.

The third leap is from single product to full scenario. In 2026, Govee extended its AI capabilities from indoor lighting to more scenarios such as outdoor lighting. AI Lighting is no longer limited to a certain type of product, but has gradually become an underlying capability covering the whole-home product system.

The fourth leap is still in progress: from single lamp intelligence to spatial intelligence. According to the introduction, Govee will launch AI-powered Group Control in the future, realizing synchronous and unified management of multiple lighting products through AI. By then, what AI will do is not just generate a lighting effect, but coordinate the light environment of the entire space.

Looking back at this path, the significance of AI in the lighting industry lies not in showing off skills, but in returning the right to create lighting effects to ordinary users: in the past, lighting effects were designed by brands and selected by users, but now everyone can create lighting with their own language.

Three New Products: Embedding Capabilities into Real Homes

Technical accumulation is ultimately reflected in products. At IFA 2026, the three new products released by Govee correspond to main lighting, indoor ambient lighting and outdoor lighting respectively, which is a concentrated implementation of its underlying lighting technology and AI Lighting capabilities.

Sky Ceiling Light: Evolving from ambient lighting to daily main lighting. Govee used to be better known for ambient lighting products such as light strips and TV backlights, and the Sky Ceiling Light means that it has gone deeper into the fields of home main lighting and human-centric lighting.

According to the official introduction, this is the industry's first AI-driven emotion-responsive ceiling lamp. Equipped with AI Lighting Bot 2.0, it can generate personalized lighting according to users' emotions and daily needs; when users need to focus or boost their energy, the system will preferentially call the 478nm sky blue spectrum specially designed by Govee (Vitality Spectrum technology) to provide a light environment closer to daytime when natural daylight is insufficient.

As the main lighting, light quality is equally critical. The Sky Ceiling Light adopts the NaturalTone natural tone algorithm, covering an ultra-wide color temperature range of 1,000K–10,000K, providing a maximum white light output of 7,000 lumens, with a color rendering index of CRI 95; it has also obtained the TÜV Rheinland low-glare certification and reached the RG0 blue light safety level. It is also equipped with DaySync, which can automatically adjust the light according to time and weather, and supports the Matter protocol.

COB Strip Light 2 Pro: Using underlying lighting effects to support AI creativity. AI can generate creativity, but whether the creativity can be accurately presented depends on the hardware itself. The COB Strip Light 2 Pro adopts a high-density LED arrangement of 1,344 LEDs per meter and 16 independent control chips per meter. Combined with an innovative three-layer light guide groove structure, it reduces the graininess and light spots common in traditional light strips, making the lighting effect more continuous and uniform in both monochrome and multi-color modes.

The combination of RGBWWIC multi-color zone control technology and LuminBlend+ color engine further improves color accuracy and white light performance, with a color temperature range of 1,000K–10,000K and a color rendering index of CRI 92. When users describe a game, party or movie-watching scene in one sentence, the creativity generated by AI can be delicately restored.

Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 Pro: AI and DIY go outdoors. The outdoor scenario is a new field where Govee's AI capabilities extend. According to the official introduction, the Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 Pro is the first permanent outdoor lighting solution with independently controlled double-layer lighting: each lamp head integrates two independently controlled chips, and the upper and lower light zones can present different colors and effects at the same time, adding a sense of hierarchy to the lighting on building facades.

With the help of AI Lighting Bot 2.0, users only need to describe the style they want to generate double-layer lighting effects for festivals, parties or daily decoration; the independently controlled Y-joint allows the branch light strings to run different effects, adapting to complex house types. For American families that are used to decorating their houses by themselves, this means greater DIY space.

After the new product launch, Govee won 28 international media awards during IFA 2026.

From Selling Products to Defining Experience

In terms of market layout, Govee takes the United States and Germany as its core markets, with products covering more than 80 countries and regions around the world. In terms of product layout, it has expanded from ambient lighting such as light strips and TV backlights to main lighting such as ceiling lamps, and then to outdoor lighting, forming a full-home, full-scenario product matrix with AI Lighting running through it.

This is also where Govee's differentiation lies. Most domestic lighting enterprises in China are good at engineering and distribution channels, while Govee is a user-oriented smart lighting brand that directly faces global consumers and drives technical iteration based on user experience.

Overseas markets have also given positive feedback. At CES 2026 earlier this year, Govee won 36 media awards. Matter Alpha, a smart home media, commented in its report on the IFA new products that with its rich product line and consistent support for the Matter standard, Govee remains "the most dazzling one" in the smart home lighting market.

Judging from the path of Zhiyan Technology, Chinese brands' overseas expansion is going through the evolution from product export, technology export to brand export. In the early stage, the market was opened up by supply chain efficiency and cost performance. Today, more and more Chinese brands are beginning to participate in defining the experience standards of a category with self-developed technology and understanding of users. Govee is a representative of this group: from underlying lighting technology to AI interaction innovation, continuous technical accumulation and global product practices are consolidating its leading advantages in the smart lighting field, and giving Chinese brands a stronger voice in defining the next generation of lighting experience.

This leading position is more concretely reflected in Govee's continuous deepening of AI capabilities. From generating lighting effects through text, voice and images, to understanding and improving user needs in multi-turn dialogues, Govee is integrating AI into the core experience of lighting, allowing personalized lighting to evolve from complex settings to natural expression, and extending to the whole home and all scenarios
