Elon Musk breaks up with AI? SpaceX AI has changed its name again.
SpaceXAI is about to change its name again!
On October 4, Elon Musk posted on X that "No more AI", SI (Super Intelligence) is a better choice.
When a netizen asked if he could rename it SpaceXSI, Musk replied: "Yes, we will."
Earlier, he also stated on X that SpaceX is "a Super Intelligence company".
This is the second name change within a year.
The company was originally named xAI, and was renamed SpaceXAI after being acquired by SpaceX in February this year.
Musk did not say when the new name will take effect, and SpaceXAI has not announced any new brand or new account yet.
Three Core Reasons for the Name Change
Why did Musk follow suit? There are roughly three main reasons.
First, its capabilities have truly reached a new level.
RSI (Recursive Self-Improvement) is accelerating, with the landmark event being the solution to the Millennium Prize Problems.
On September 8, OpenAI announced the solution to the Navier-Stokes equations problem by an internal model, with a Lean formal proof attached. The capability of this model is significantly higher than GPT-6 Astra.
The model took 88 hours, mobilizing up to 10,000 agents simultaneously at most.
In April this year, prediction markets still believed that the probability of AI solving any one of the Millennium Prize Problems before 2030 was less than 40%.
The term "Artificial Intelligence" can no longer keep up with what it is capable of doing.
Second, the naming rights.
The term "Artificial Intelligence" was proposed by John McCarthy in 1955, and for the next 70 years, the entire field has been using his naming.
The first party to establish SI and put it in its company name will seize the label of the next era.
"Inventing SI" carries no less weight than "Inventing AI".
Third, political statement.
The starting point of the name change is the White House.
Trump first publicly called for replacing the term "Artificial Intelligence" with SI at the UN General Assembly last week, then signed an executive order requiring administrative departments to use "Super Intelligence" and "SI" in official communications, public statements and policy documents, and no longer use "Artificial Intelligence" or "AI".
His reason is that the word "artificial" sounds like "fake".
The executive order only applies to the federal government. It does not require private companies to change their product names, nor does it prohibit enterprises from continuing to use AI.
Musk took the initiative to follow up.
Musk left the Trump administration in May 2025, and later publicly broke with Trump.
Now their relationship has significantly warmed up: in his capacity as the head of xAI, he signed the White House "Super Intelligence" agreement together with Sundar Pichai, Dario Amodei, Mark Zuckerberg, Greg Brockman, Jensen Huang.
When he was on the same stage with Trump, he accidentally said AI, and immediately corrected himself: "SI, sorry, Super Intelligence."
Now directly changing the company name to SpaceXSI is equivalent to tying SpaceXAI to the White House's discourse system, which is an olive branch showing his willingness to move forward.
It is still uncertain whether SI will become popular.
Some technology marketing experts believe that since "Super Intelligence" already has an established connotation, this name change is unlikely to be accepted by the entire industry.
But for Musk, the name change itself is exactly the answer he needs to give right now.
