Pet Go — AI-powered Pet Companion Helps Urban Adults Engage in Light Activities
PetGo serves urban adults who cannot keep real pets for the time being with stable character setting, controllable memory and rejectable light action invitations, exploring how AI companionship can integrate into real daily life.
PetGo is developing an AI virtual pet product for adults and seeking financing at the Pre-seed stage. The first phase of the project plans to use WeChat Mini Program as the carrier to serve urban users who live alone, face rental restrictions, have allergies, or are temporarily not suitable for keeping real pets due to their current life stage. PetGo does not position its product as a general chatbot or task-checking tool. Instead, it tries to use a virtual pet with a consistent expression style to enable users to form viewable, editable and deletable shared life records during long-term interactions, and bring interactions back to real scenarios through low-pressure action invitations.
Starting from companionship demands, bringing interactions back to real life
PetGo defines its first batch of users as urban adults aged 22 to 35. For some of them, housing conditions, time constraints, allergies or care responsibilities restrict the possibility of keeping real pets, but their companionship needs of "being remembered and needed" have not disappeared. After work, on weekends or during low-energy periods, there is often a lack of a sufficiently lightweight trigger for them to go out, tidy up the room, sunbathe or complete simple self-care. Short-form video cloud pet viewing, electronic pets, sports tracking and city guide services cover entertainment, companionship, goal management and information acquisition respectively, but few of them combine continuous character relationships and daily actions in the same experience path.
The core judgment of PetGo is that users may not necessarily need a more powerful chat entry, but a low-pressure, rejectable companionship relationship. The product plans to control action invitations within 5 to 20 minutes, such as taking a walk, sunbathing or completing simple tidying; users can reject, mute, pause or delete memories. The project is not positioned as a solution for psychotherapy, health diagnosis or loneliness problems, nor does it create return visits through the virtual pet's emotions such as hunger or loss. What it intends to verify is: when the virtual character has continuity and retains user autonomy, whether it can become a low-pressure motivation for small real-life actions.
This direction is based on the background that the consumer-grade AI user base continues to expand. According to the 57th Statistical Report on China's Internet Development released by the China Internet Network Information Center, as of December 2025, the number of generative AI users in China has reached 602 million, with a penetration rate of 42.8%. For PetGo, this data does not equal the establishment of demand or willingness to pay, but means that the cognitive threshold of target users for AI interaction is decreasing, and the project can put limited resources into relationship quality, character experience and verification design.
Building differentiation through character consistency and controllable memory
The first-phase product cycle of PetGo revolves around adoption and naming, character expression, light action invitation, user completion or rejection, writing of shared experiences into memory, and subsequent changes in the next interaction. The planned technical path includes: using a fixed state machine and controlled generation to maintain the work and rest pattern, expression style, preferences and boundaries of a single character prototype; precipitating actions, photos, preferences and emotion labels into structured events; retrieving and invoking relevant experiences in subsequent interactions. The MVP plans to support users to view, edit and delete the relationship timeline, avoiding turning "remembering" into unexplainable and uncontrollable data accumulation.
This makes PetGo's product trade-offs clearer: the first phase will not pursue multiple characters, complex 3D worlds, open social networking or national POI platforms, but focus resources on a high-quality character prototype, structured memory and safe light action experience. Action invitations can be combined with time, weather and user choices, without relying on heavy-operation local content; the memory card or footprint card formed after completion can be shared at the user's discretion. For early consumer-grade AI products, whether the character "acts like itself" and whether the memory can accurately bring differences to the next interaction determines whether the product will become a one-time novelty, or an entry point for relationships with reasons for return visits.
Products combining AI characters, digital pets with habit support or co-cultivation have emerged in overseas markets. Momo Self Care and Pengu provide adjacent product references respectively: the former connects digital pets with habit reminders, while the latter focuses on the co-cultivation of virtual pets. PetGo will not copy their task-driven or social paths, but take the continuity of a single character, user-controllable shared memory and real-life light actions as the first-phase differentiation hypothesis.
This round of financing focuses on MVP verification and early commercialization
PetGo is currently in the stage of MVP preparation and product development, and has not disclosed operating data such as user scale, revenue, retention, cooperation resources or completed financing. The project plans to complete in-depth interviews with 20 to 30 target users, develop a high-quality character prototype and structured memory capabilities within 8 to 12 weeks, and conduct closed beta tests with 100 to 300 strictly matched adults. The focus of verification is not exposure or registration scale, but whether users are willing to actively return to interact with the character, whether they recognize the continuity of the character's expression, whether long-term memory brings incremental value, whether action invitations are completed independently, and whether users are still willing to interact again after rejecting an invitation.
The project plans to record indicators including D1, D7 and D30, as well as the first effective interaction, memory viewing, active return visit, invitation completion and re-acceptance after rejection through cohort and control groups. The comparison between scenarios with and without long-term memory, as well as different invitation strategies, will directly determine whether the next stage is to deepen character and memory capabilities, or adjust action granularity and trigger methods. The purpose of this verification path is to judge as early as possible whether "sense of relationship" can be transformed into reviewable retention and real behaviors, rather than replacing product evidence with single-point interaction or content popularity.
Commercialization will be carried out after the core retention verification. After obtaining preliminary evidence of relationship retention, PetGo plans to test the willingness of low-threshold membership and small real payments, which may support more in-depth memory albums, more personalized expressions, growth side quests, themed seasonal content, as well as paid standalone items such as photo memory albums, dwellings, festival stories and other commemorative and decorative products. The core companionship function and a complete light action plan will remain free; brand scenario cooperation, IP and physical peripherals are listed as subsequent options, on the premise that user trust, retention and unit cost are established first.
The Pre-seed financing in this round is planned to be used to complete the adult-oriented WeChat Mini Program MVP, conduct closed beta tests with 100 to 300 users, carry out user research and build a trust and security infrastructure, and give priority to strengthening capabilities in AI and back-end engineering, character content and animation, user research and growth, content and trust operation. The project plans to take clear AI identity prompts, rejection and exit paths, memory hierarchical authorization, copy and deletion functions, risk identification and manual handling processes as pre-launch preparations. Whether the relevant regulatory requirements and specific obligations applicable to anthropomorphic interactive services apply still requires a special legal assessment combined with the actual character setting, functional boundaries and service methods. For investors, what PetGo needs to establish most in the next stage is not a grand market narrative, but a verifiable relationship between character continuity, user return visits, action completion and controllable costs.
